I want to make make the ability Elune's Arrow from the Priestess of the Moon in Defense of the Ancients (DoTA). I've very unskilled at anything this custom. I'm essentially a noobie, I know how to make custom units/heros/items, changes the stats on already made skills a bit, and some minior cinematics stuff. Really nothing fantastic.

Basically I want to know if anyone could guide me through step by step on how I would make this spell.

Remember, I literally know ziltch about anything more advanced than the editor, such as JASS, which I know what it is, but know nothing about how it works or is used. Speak to me as if I was 10 lol :p

if you're really a newb in triggering then you shouldn't go that far... better start with something simpler
anyway you can use the search button
there are many posts about that

EDIT: are you using GUI or JASS?

Well I'm just a total newbie with JASS and GUI. I don't know where to start or what to do at all. I know I'll need to use either to make this ability, but no knowledge how. If the arrow is too complicated for a starter then perhaps someone could guide me with a practice spell maybe? I'd still need it in very simple terms of course.

Wowow, chill. Don't start with Eluna's arrow. Learn the basics!

Well I searched through the threads already, and did find a tutorial, but it was far too complicated. I don't understand any of the terms used. I tried reading a guide for JASS at this link http://www.thehelper.net/forums/showthread.php?t=116495

But I still got lost after the first few setences. I guess it takes some special already known knowledge to get anything.

I'm sure if it's the way people explain it or what. I mean, if you ask someone how to reinstall a operating system in a computer and they didn't know how, you couldn't just tell them "Take your XP Disc and boot up your computer with it. Then when it finishes loading you must select the correct installation path to create your new XP installation....blah blah blah" If I talked like that to people I know that have small computing skills, their heads would spin. For those people I explain all the parts I'm talking about, even the simplest, such as booting up and what its doing and why it does it. Not technical mumbo jumbo terms either.

Shall I give up? I don't think anyone can offer the help thatt I'm looking for.

There's plenty of basic tutorials for GUI.

Work on one after the other, in order, or you won't understand any of it.

Variables are a VERY important part of World Editor triggering, so you need to learn about them before anything else.

Don't give up. Even simple experimenting in World Editor by yourself can be fruitful. GUI is incredibly simple to start out in, so just look around and try to make some simple things.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out

    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
