[Help][Spell] Two New Ideas !

Hello,

I just want to say (again) that you guys have been great and without you I would never have been able to make custom spells.

The next two I'm working on are:

1. A forked-chain lightning. Shoots the fork and then will continue on to do normal chain lightning.



2. Basically Flamestrike but instead of lasting three seconds it lasts much longer, as long as the Hero is channeling (Similar to flamewall from Diablo except channeling)

So do you actually need help, or are you just saying this?

No I actually need help. I only mark [Help] in those cases.

I have no idea how to do the chain lightning spell or the other one.

I also like to get an idea of what the best way to do these spells are (Through the WEU object/spell editor, Trigger or some combination)

for the first one, some trigger like this

Code:
event - units starts the effect of an ability
conditions - ability being cast is equal to forking chain lightning
actions 
pick every unit within (insert range of spell) range of (target unit of ability being cast) matching (is an enemy, and what you want)
if (angle between (trigging unit pos) and (picked unit pos) - angle between (triggering unit pos) and (targeted unit pos) is less then 30º or greater then 330º then do actions*
*create 1 (dummy) at (triggering unit pos)
*add chain lightning to (last created unit)
*order *last created unit) to (chain lighting) (picked unit)
*add a 1 second expiration timer to last created unit
you need to fix leaks, there are a lot but im lazy :p, and then add some sort of counter to set the max # of units that can be hit by this if you want, make the normal spell be based off chain and have 0 bounces + do 0 damage, etc. and make the chain lighting you add have the right damage + # of bounces and other stuff


and for the second one, just increase the casting time to 3 seconds? and then increase the duration? both in the object editor?

slapshot that might work for forked lightning but the flamestrike doesnt work that way.

he basically wants it to be blizzard where you just keep channeling until order your unit except he doesnt want waves he just wants it constant

Yes, The flamestrike thing basically is blizzard. It deals damage every second it's being channeled except it's a flamestrike and takes the same little cast time.

I will try using Earthquake

Edit: Tried Earthquake, would I have to use a trigger to add in damage to units?

no just change the targets on it double click the targets allowed area and checkmark the things u would like it to hit

but with blizzard the shards keep falling down even if u change art, basing off of earthquake and changing the art settings and the targets allowed should do the trick and if not use death and decay

Doesn't Rain of Fire have a dot component? I'm not in the editor currently so I can't check, but I seem to recall something like that.

Not really sure what a dot componet is.

Could I just use Flamestrike and extend it's timer?

Blizzard will always have at least 1 shard animation.

Earthquake won't damage units when I check them under the tab, only buildings.

I don't like Death and Decay because it's % based.

rain of fire has a minimum of 1 "shard" or w/e, it's like blizzard with dps (damage per second) (o ya dot is damage over time)

u can change the targets allowed for earthquake.. im pretty sure you can atleast, try like copy+pasting the targets allowed from flamestrike

Well basically, Rain of Fire is a channeled area damage spell, much like Blizzard, but in addition to the regular damage each wave of fire deals, it also adds a buff to the target, causing it to take damage for a short while after the channeling is done.

Maybe something like that's what you were looking for?

Basically I just want a Flame Strike that lasts between 8-20 seconds (Multiple levels) and that has the flame pillar animation last as long AND the caster has to channel the whole time. All the other Flame strike effects remain the same.

I tried extending the duration of Flame Strike but it didn't work.
