Im making an orpg, and i thought that it would be cool to be able to use both ranged and melee weapons. But i have no idea how to make the hero ranged when he gets an item.
Check out any of the various orbs that you can buy in melee games.
All of them, if I remember correctly, enable the second attack of the hero that appears in the Object Editor, allowing them to become ranged. You should be able to change the targets of that attack to be able to attack ground units as well.
i also have had this problem, i tried with orb and it didnt work. It ended up with me doing one melee hero and one ranged which you can switch between with morph. This works but isnt as effective as if you could use the orb. Someone should really write a guide about this.
You could have two Units, one that is ranged and one that is melee.
Then replace the melee one with the ranged one, when the hero acquires the item, and then change it back when the item is lost.
I know this works but idk if its what you want. If you use the ability fromt he stone giant that picks up a tree, it will change the unit's attack to attack 2. There might be a way for making it how you want it using triggers.
