great job on the blue swirl and portal thing. i like the enhanced three moon key, much better than the orig. sure, that would be nice, saji. unknown vector, really nice boarders. thats what im looking for. dota crime, first add a boarder. second, what are they. they look like an oil rainbow, or a space nebula. the second looks like grain or sumthing........

yeah, it kinda does..... what is it sqrage? mabey give it alitle more contrast? gj hobo, but please give them boarders!!!!!! this is not a picture contest! also, make it the right size. its a chalenge to see how much you can fit into a 64\64 image. an attached thumbnail is optional. i like that, "boarder of the universe".

Format: PNG (Although it seems not be be allowed by the rules, could you comment on this Pyromancer?) and JPG for the big version.
Description: It is a greenish orb icon, which would probably suit dark spells better than other ones. An idea on how to use it: Use this icon for an orb item that gives a chance to banish the target.

WOW thos are exelent!!!!! what prog did you use? very nice. and thos were just ideas for the basic guidlines, nobody really folowed them anyways..... that is defenently around first right now. thx for attaching a bigger version also.

Blender is free, open-source and a lot like lightwave, 3dsmax, gmax and 3d modelling programs like that, but has a totally different interface, that has a longer learning curve, but allows you to model very fast once you've learned it. Gimp is free and open-source, too, and is a lot like photoshop, paint shop pro and other image editing programs.

Grurf those are sweet. If I may make a suggestion. The circular area should be eliptical to match the angle of the emitting beam. This would make it look much more 3d.

When you say you used a 3d program for these. Do you mean you began with a 3d sphere and took a 2d screenshot of it and then manipulated that with the other? I had never thought of doing that, but you could get shadows automaticly made for you if you do it in 3d program first.

@Ruination: The images are fully rendered in blender, gimp was only used to add the border. The problem with the circular area is that it's a halo, which means that it looks exactly the same from every point of view. I could render it first, then use it as a texture on a plane. BTW I have still got the sceneries, if you like that orb I could send ya a big version. I can render it into any resolution.

The exact method I used:

Orb: What you see is a sphere with a cloud texture, alpha-mapped with dark and light green. Around the sphere there are halos everywhere, attached to particles that are generated by a sphere inside the greenish one, that you can't see. I could also render this into an animated movie, where you can actually see the halos blasting out of the sphere.

Beam: The circular thing is a big halo, the beam consists of thousands of halos very close to each other.

About shadows: Yes I could render a shadow of it all on a plane, that'd make it look cooler in a big version, but in such a small icon you barely see it.

Very nice methods. For the shadow I was just talking about the form shadow of 3d objects such as spheres--not cast shadows.

It seems like no new icons are being submitted anymore, how about specifying an end date, Pyromancer? This contest shouldn't last forever. At the end date, rate all the icons, give them places, and maybe give a price to the best one(s). You could ask The Helper if he can do the prizes, like +x rep or a sig (which is a kinda big prize for such a contest, but anyway).

Heres another, are we allowed only 1 or as many as we like? becasue if only 1 then we should know. Also I hope you aren't taking the larger versions of the icons when judging them, they aren't icons...

@AgentPaper: You are allowed to submit as many as you want, Pyromancer stated that earlier. Bigger versions shouldn't be rated, they were asked because at some icons it was very hard to see what they were showing (complaints about hurting eyes ).

@All: Another thing about this "compotition", how about converting all the icons to blp's when it's finished and make one big icon pack of it?
