Importing Icons

Ok, I'm ok in some computer programs, I know quite a bit about computers in general, but when it comes to downloading programs were you have to put a file in as some format, to convert it to some other format, blahblahblah, I just don't get it all. So, I got an icon image from Hiveworks, but it comes in a .zip file! So I try to put in Ifranview, it says its needs to be a JPEG image! So I try to save it as a .jpg but I can't... I just don't get this all, can someone explain it to me step by step how to make a custom icon? Yes I've tryed all those other tutorials, they don't make any sense to me.

a .zip file is an archive designed by windows (i think so they can reduce the file size of documents, but they dont seem to work well...) Its similar to a folder where there are files stored inside, but you cant acess them until you extract them.

To extract them, right click the .zip file and then extract all. Follow the instructions in the wizard and then you should see a proper folder with your .jpeg file...

if its a zip file, you can do this, right click on the file, find zip>extract to folder....after you have finished extract to folder, look at the folder where you extracted there should be the files from the zip....thats all

Ok, but I still can't open it with Irfanview, still says the picture's a jpeg with incorrect extension...

Edit- OOOO, now I get it, the reason is that it won't open because it comes as a BLP, so... how do I save it as a JPG when its a .zip?

(Yes, I know not to double post, the only reason I ever do is to bump the thread)
Anyways, now I know the real problem.
When I get the .zip, I extract it, (this is the problem->) the files are blp. files, so I can't open it with Irfanview, and that means I can't change it into a TGA to go in WE.
Solution - Is there any way to so the .blp files to change them into jpg. files which I CAN open?

Um... .blp's are the file type used by Blizzard (Blizzard Picture File), and they can be directly imported into your map.

There are convertors, but in the map you need the icon to be blp... so what's the point to get it in JPG?

Well, you could want to edit the image first, but from what I understand he doesn't want that.

Oh... ok thanks... hmmm, the tutorial on the normal sight said they had to be imported as TGA and then you could change them in a BLP or keep it..

Ok, now this is what I don't get, I did everything right.
1. I extracted the files
2.They are blp. files
3. I impored them as (For example the attack button)
ReplaceableTexutes\CommandButtons\BTNHD_Attack_blp
4. I went to "Game Interface" and clicked "Attack
5. I used the file as an import
6. Now it's still just all green box!

dont make it:
BTNHD_Attack_blp

change it to:
BTNHD_Attack.blp

That should work if you have the file name correct... im pretty sure you do. (try changing to BTNAttack.blp if it doesnt work because im not sure why you need the HD there.

HD is part of the icon's name it seems (Like how BTNAttack.blp is for Active [BTN] Attack icon [.blp]).

Putting it as BTNAttack.blp will replace the default attack icon of Attack.blp. BTNHD_Attack.blp is a different icon by the name of HD_Attack.blp.

Be sure to save your map (you don't need to restart WE, just save) - THEN apply the icon.

Ahh yes. I understand Anything., I was thinking along the lines of replaceing terrain tiles... Im still right by saying:

BTNHD_Attack.blp
