Apple iPods have overheated and burst into flames and smoke on a number of occasions, causing both injuries and property damage. And Apple has fought to keep federal government reports of these incidents from becoming public, according to a Seattle TV station.

KIRO-TV posted a story on its Web site last week that details its investigation into a series of fiery iPod episodes that have affected numerous users across the U.S. In some cases the overheated iPods, including recent Shuffle and Nano models, have even burned their owners.

Jamie Balderas of Arlington, Wash., told KIRO in November 2008 that her new iPod Shuffle had overheated while she was running, leaving her with a penny-sized burn mark on her chest where the iPod was clipped to her shirt.

I hope they do a recall so I can get a brand new ipod. ;)

It's a new weapon. Turn an iPod on, throw it through a window.

I found a zune the other day. The only downside for a Zune is the software you use on the computer for it.

Microsoft is sabotaging the iPod, to get people to buy zunes. They are masters at making unreliable over heating devices, such as, the xbox. Conspiracy!!!
-iTunes isn't that bad, the problem is it hogs resources on PCs and Digital Rights management, but I heard they did away with that, plus it converts all of the songs to their format, which translates to more disk-space usage! I myself, have a Samsung, mp3 player.

Digital Rights management is no longer a part of iTunes if I recall correctly.

As for iPod, I own three. Two 30gb Videos and a 1gb iPod shuffle for when I'm riding around. I bought the first video to use, I got another from my ex-friend when we stopped hanging out as a payment he owed me, and I bought the shuffle because my first videos headphone jack got screwed up from being in my pocket all the time and I don't want to break my other video.

Overall, I don't mind them. Granted, now a days there are much better music players, but overall they're not that bad.

Many people have that problem with the jacks. Easy fix though. If you can pop off the plate of the iPod, where the jack goes, push on, with a small screw driver or whatever, the tiny metal connectors, especially ones that seem bent. Basically, the connectors to the headphones, were messed up, and you have to reorientated. I fixed my sisters mp3 player that had the same problem.

Thank God! Over here, Ipods are like very expensive, so expensive that I never had the chance to buy one.

Now I'm grateful I don't have cell phones, MP3s, Ipod, Iphone, and Ipod Touch.

I don't need an iPod, I have a phone which does the trick. And who the hell needs to fit eight gigabytes of music on their mp3 player? You'll only listen to a fraction of them anyway.

Don't you know that they're going to use those things to control the world? They simply have to put hypnotizing music on each one, rig them to explode on command, and thus cause the entire human population to commit suicide???

Lol seriously, these things are already expensive, need their own software (that you have to pay to use) and some are so small that it's a wonder you can keep one for more than a year without losing it!

I'd rather look at alternate systems, like Sansa and Zune and whatever.

Haha, no :p
I listen to a lot more than 8 gb of music.

Yea me too.

I only listen to whole albums not singles so it's really not hard listening to 8gb of music.

And I'm really big on music so phone sound quality doesn't do it for me.

You don't have to pay to use iTunes...you don't even have to buy anything from apple after you buy an iPod.

Flaming iPods... cool :p

Clearly they're not doing a very good job of keeping things quiet? :D

Well, if it plays videos as well (not sure what (if any) iPods have video playback though, I've never had any interest in iPods :p), that'd take up a nice bit of space as well

Creative Zen FTW! Mine hasn't exploded... yet. Software can be a bit annoying for adding music files if the file format isn't supported though
