Is there really no way at all to trigger a unit to cast a custom spell?

Certainly there's some way...right? I know you can cast default spells, but I don't really want to use those.
Is there any custom script that a JASS noob might be able to be taught to make a unit cast a custom spell?

Yes. The ability which you based upon is the casting requirement. Meaning if you base your custom spell off Storm Bolt, just order the unit to cast Storm Bolt.

As for Channel, just order the unit to cast the spell based off the Base Order ID.
