I tested the function king, and it seems to work correctly, but it returns the squared distance (which is okay). But while the bj-function uses 4 calculations (2 times the difference and 2 time a multiplication) and this one uses 13 calculations i guess it is slower...

Er, generally it is used in coordinate.
Linear = Straight Line
Pythagoras = triangle
Pythagoras theory = A^2+B^2 = C^2, while A and B is adjacent and opposite. C is hypotenuse.

These are some nasty bj-functions and wrappers, plus they aren't inline friendly.
