my units cant use powerups

i want to make my units be able to pick up bundle of lumber or chest of coins... i have backpack upgrade on but i still cant get the power up to work? is there an option?

The inventory abilities have a checkbox called "can use items". For the backpack ability this checkbox is unchecked, they cannot use items, for heroes it is checked and they can.
Powerups and all other kinds of items act exactly the same, if they can use lumber or cold they will be able to use healing potions and similar stuff as well.
