Dutch police confiscate several thousand PlayStation 3 consoles as electronics giants head for court in long-running Blu-ray row.

Dutch police have seized several thousand PlayStation 3s at Sony's biggest European warehouse in the latest stage of its acrimonious patent battle with LG.

LG has won a court order enabling it to seize all new PS3 across the Netherlands – including those already in Dutch homes – in a dispute that centres on Sony's allegedly infringing use of Blu-ray technology belonging to LG.

The injunction means that LG is tightening the net on PS3s in Europe, having already ordered customs officers to seize thousands of the consoles last week.

Sony will fight to have the blockade lifted at an emergency hearing in the Hague's civil court of justice tomorrow.

wait, they can go into a person's home and take it? when the person has already bought it? wtf?

Hide you're PS3's.

By the way this is totally fuc**d up. As much as i dislike the PS3 if this actually passes, what with all the problems sony's been having they might actually shut down the company (or severely limit it).

"Yo I'm a judge, I think LG is right, here's a court order to confiscate every PS3 in my country"
"Yea but... Sony has not even had a chance to defend itself"
"Do it".

That's basically what happened.
Nice one Holland, that pretty much looks like someone (judge? jury?) got heavily paid by LG. And I can't believe your system allows such injustice.
Especially that the court order stated LG merely believes their technology might probably be borrowed by Sony and put into their Bluray players inside the PS3.
Where's Sony's chance to defend itself in that mess?
It's indeed uncommon that one witnesses a one-sided court...

End of rant.

Holland is going to shit. What a retarded country, they don't even believe in the principle of personal property?

Those countries make me laugh so hard. I want to go there and just rob banks, because apparently in some of these places like Holland and Norway I could get away with it. And in the event that they did find me, their legal/police systems appear to be a big joke so I'd probably get to keep the money, then when I go to court just be like "Yo dawg that ruling in LG's favor was bomb."

What kind of problems is the company having right now? I thought they were doing good apart from this battle over Blu-Ray.

Anyways, LG, since you got so many f**king PS3s now, and your company's name and logo aren't on them, care to give some to us for free? Then we'll forgive you for this.

Sony's had a few lawsuits recently. I don't think any of them would cause much damage, with the exception of this. They're too big for minor lawsuits over something not working right, or that rootkit thing, to do much of anything. However, I can see how this COULD push them over the edge, if they throw a lot of money at this and then they lose. But I'd imagine that they would be smart enough to back down before it got that far in the event it does.

LG lost the battle. Pays up to $180,000 per day.

Today's court session in The Hague, Netherlands over the PlayStation 3 dispute between LG and Sony has revealed some mind-boggling facts and figures and produced a major surprise. [Update] According to InsideGamer.nl as well as Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf and an independent source I have talked to, Sony has won this round and the court has lifted the prejudgment seizure order.

InsideGamer.nl reports that all seized PlayStations will have to be released, no more seizures will take place, and LG has to pay legal fees amounting to €130,000 (approximately US$180,000). For each day that LG fails to comply, it will be fined at a rate of €200,000 (approximately US$275,000).

I have learned that the key reason for the court to lift the seizure order was that this kind of measure didn't seem fair given the history of negotiations between the parties. The ruling didn't only overturn the prejudgment seizure order but also told LG to inform the Dutch customs authority and ensure that no further confiscations would happen.

This is only related to the prejudgment seizure order: Sony can resume the distribution of PlayStations across Europe for now, but there will still be a full-fledged legal proceeding to determine whether there is an infringement (and if so, how much money Sony owes LG). But Sony's most pressing problem has been solved.

Good for the win.

@ Daxtreme They actually ended up being the worst console of this gen, selling less copies than the Wii or XBOX and way less games. Not enough games are being made for the PS3 because of the high cost ratio towards say a Wii game, and the amount of players playing on the XBOX (even though most are just pricks). The PSP was also a failure, sadly because there are a lot of good games for it and the console itself is good, but expensive. So overall they did the worst in this gen, while nintendo came on top. Didn't really think they were doing horribly, but i had heard that they had to lay off people because they couldn't afford salaries (may not be accurate at all, no link on the internet).

The legal system in Norway is relatively forgiving in the time you spend in jail and the conditions in jail are better than in other countries, but in no way will you actually get away with anything here. The crime rate is low and there is a reason: Everyone is well off. But in no way would i say that the police here is a joke, except that you get nicer treatment than if you would, say, rob a bank in the US. Also, the fact that you can't get a gun here, discourages violence. All in all, the fact that the crime is so low doesn't necesseraly imply that you're gonna get away with the said crime XD

Question: How is this relevant to anything anyone has posted in this thread?

Either way this turns out in the end, I'm glad LG lost the "first round". Not even allowing Sony chance to defend itself was ludicrous.

Earlier he said that he thought Sony was having financial problems and was adding more to it.

Questions? Questions? Who is right? Who is wrong? In some countries like England, the UK Sony is reportedly part of a group(s) called FACT? Federation against copyright theft? They reportedly prosecute others? In the US, Sony is being sued by people who have come together in a class action lawsuit in regard to, over the removal of sorts of Linux? Some allege false advertising? Now why would Sony ever want to alienates its customers if that is what is being done? Has Sony been, is Sony infringing on the work of anyone(s) in Playstation 3? Maybe FACT knows? The law is supposed to be for all equally?

We have some elderly guests that regularly come hang out at the bar at the end of the night, and every once in a while we don't see someone for a few weeks and then someone shows up with their obituary.
  • Varine Varine:
We usually let them do their memorials there in the morning if they want to and I'll make them some snacks and drinks. There was one guy named Tom that came in like every night and would sit by himself and get a bunch of soup and a glass of wine. idk why but he LOVED our fucking soup, like he would order a fucking quart of it at a time and would always get so sad when we stop doing it for the summer.

  • Varine Varine:
But he also loved our calamari, which is another thing I hate but it sells super well so I can't change it. There was one day he came in and was asking me how to make it, because he tried to at home once in the off season when we stop running it and he really wanted it lol
  • Varine Varine:
I think he's one of the only people I've made recipes for for free because he really wanted a broccoli cheddar, and it was like dude I don't have a recipe, it's just whatever I have, but here, this is how you do it
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think he ever figured out how to do the calamari in a pan though, like idk how to do that either. He was afraid of the at home deep fryers though and it's like yeah, that's fair, I am too
  • Varine Varine:
He was just such a sweet old man, we had two servers pregnant and they held a baby shower together, he was soooooo fucking excited to get to see a baby. Unfortunately he died a month or so before they were born
  • The Helper The Helper:
So I decided to Google some people that I had not seen or heard from in a while and sure enough one of my old best friends, we had a falling out years ago but whatever, find out he died of Pancreatic Cancer in January. I have also lost a few of my closer acquaintances from growing up the last year. Getting old - people die - I kinda thought it was going to be this way a few years ago....

    Forum running super slow again
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not really clear from the stats as to what is causing the slowness.
  • Ghan Ghan:
We get a lot of guest traffic so it may just be the load is getting too high and not from any particular source.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Looks like the server is maxed out on CPU.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Oh it looks like a lot of the traffic is Silkroad Forums. That domain isn't protected by Cloudflare.
  • Ghan Ghan:
But the old Silkroad site is still on its own server. I just had a test site set up on this server for it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I just disabled that test site. Let's see if that helps the load.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Looks much better already.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I had actually forgot about the Silkroad site. I had asked
  • The Helper The Helper:
SD Ryoko about it and he said the couple of people left on there really like it, that was a few years ago, maybe I should check back
  • jonas jonas:
I guess when you're getting old, and the last day of soup season draws near, you start wondering
  • jonas jonas:
will I make it to the start of the next season? or was this the last time I'll ever have my favorite dish?
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am doing my first Vibe Coding project. In installed the environment and tools according to instructions but it is all chat doing this for me at my direction. It is fun really and holy shit I might finish in 2 hours what it would have taken a day to in my Access and this would be an electron app complete new

    Good stuff.
