Removing Vocals from a Song

Does anyone here know how one would go about removing vocals from a song? And by this I mean creating a karaoke-type song from a regular song.

I don't plan at all to steal songs and claim them for my own in the future, but there is a talent show at our school, and I don't have a band

I would say that you have to either buy a karaoke version, download one, or make your own using MIDI/recorded instruments. I think it would be nearly impossible to remove the vocals from a song without ruining it unless they were on a different track of some sort. I don't that's likely, because it is all combined one a CD; only the record label would have it unmixed.

The only way that I know of where you could get just the instumental of a song is by contacting the record company.

Every band that is as big as them and puts out CDs has a label. ;p
