Setting footprints for units

How can i set some footprints for my hero,something like Illidans flame-ing footprints.It should create somekind of an area for a limited time, like x seconds, and any unit wich gets in that area should have damage reduction or armour reduction, or movement speed reduction.But all this area should be created in his walking path. Hope you all understood what i mean :)

as footprints you should use some dummies and give them an expiration timer
and when a unit comes in range of a dummy use whatever actions on him

you'll need a periodic trigger for that

Footprints are part of the model.

1) To make your own, turn the *main* unit into something other than walking/ground, and use a custom model following the main unit. You can either use a pre-existing one with suitable vertex invisiblity + locust + appropriate Object editor settings,

Or

2) You can use dummies (to be able to use any model available or imported, with a generic expiration timer. Place them periodically, offset slightly to the left and right,

2 will be more suitable as you want damage from the footprints. Give it a go, and if you are really stuck, post here if you need some more help in producing your desired effect.

Have a search for dummy units as a first step. (Pun intended)
