It's hard to see why and why not.

I've never heard of the Church of Scientology in my live until now...

It's really a cult (or rather, most believe it is a cult). It was formed by a science fiction writer about 50 years ago. They only accept rich people, and require mass payments for "cleansing".

This is a good move though. Of all organisations out there, the CoS seem more likely than many to advance their own agenda.

I suppose if you didn't generally keep up with such "important world affairs" as the activities of the aforementioned cult then you might not be aware of them, but news has been posted here quite a bit previously.

Scientology is just as legitimate a religion as anything else. I love when people dismiss it as a "cult". All religions started off as cults. If the Church of Scientology is banned from something, all other religions should be as well.

The church of scientology is getting in trouble with wikipedia because they keep deliberately editing and falsifying pages. Other religious groups do not consistently do that. Scientology also has an official policy of attacking and suppressing opposition to them, such as unflattering pages on wikipedia. Most religions just leave that to the fanatics rather than make it official policy.
