Add endurance aura with negative values, or the "item movespeed" ability with negative values to the unit who activates the avatar.

Problems setting a value to a negative value? Try holding down shift then click enter to edit the field, put in a negative number "-34" click ok. Short words: shift+click the field

Step 1:
Set up all the abilities needed in the object editor (hotkey F6)
See the attached picture named "Abiltiies" at the bototm of this very post.
A; one ability of the spell Avatar
B; one ability of the endurance aura
C; one ability of the "spell book" - item ability, which is used to hide the endurance aura icon! If we just added endurance aura on a unit, it would show the icon of the ability. If we put the endurance aura inside a spell book, then disable the spell book by a trigger, the unit still gets the effect of the endurance aura and the icon does not show!!! See the picture on how it is set up!!! The pink lines + the blue marked line...

Step 2:
Open up the Trigger Editor (F4 hotkey) - new trigger - Disable the spellbook for a player:
Trigger:
  • Map Init
    • Events
      • Map initialization
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Player - Disable disabled EnduranceAura for Player 1 (Red)

Step 3:
Change moverate when avatar starts:
Trigger:
  • Enduracne AUra
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit Starts the effect of an ability
    • Conditions
      • (Ability being cast) Equal to Avatar
    • Actions
      • Unit - Adddisabled-spellbook-EnduranceAura to (Triggering unit)
      • Unit - Set level of Endurance Aura for (Triggering unit) to (Level of Avatar for (Triggering unit))
      • Wait 1.00 seconds
      • Unit - Remove disabled-spellbook-EnduranceAura from (Triggering unit)

Instead of 1 seconds, you should wait as long as avatar lasts...
notice the difference between the spells.

Or instead of adding and disabling the ability try giving it only to the unit that you are transforming to as an "ability - normal" (avatar changes the unit to a different unit, give that different unit your minus movespeed but not the original).

Avatar does not change a unit into another unit. It simply makes you bigger, increases damage, defence and hit points. And of course, gives you spell immunity.
