Check if a player is present

hi,

how do i check if a player slot actually has someone there or not?

for instance,
At MAP_INIT
if player_1 is open,
set variable reddefeated to true.

i've tried a few methods, but no success

Conditions
    (Player 1 (Red) slot status) Equal to Is unused

In Conditions there is a condition that is called: Player slot status comparison

Yeah, thats what i tried. oh, i see. I messed up sumwhere else, running a script not checking conditions when i was supposed to
