Alternatives to Hashtables

Is there a way to pass data between different triggers without using global variables or hashtables? I've recently switched from GUI to Jass and I want to know if there is a better way to do it than hashtables.

You can use structs though they get converted to global variables, or use functions with parameters to pass the data. Structs are only in vJass so you need to have newgen to use it.

@Dude: I am using NewGen, so that's fine. I thought structs were like private globals, transferring data between functions within the same trigger. I need to know how to store data and retrieve it in an entirely different trigger.

@Laiev: So this is a system that calls hashtables but just makes it more efficient? Are there any specific types of instances where a hashtable would not work, or is it just me making mistakes? I used to use hashtables to store data using unit ID and call it the same way, but it didn't work for something I tried to do.

basically structs are a way to create variable array for a grouping of variables, they are global, but you can just use this:
JASS:
globals
    real array r
    other variables
endglobals
inside a library

Well, it not exactly makes hashtables more efficient, however with Table you don't need to use multiple hashtables, only one, in the whole map.

I did that too but mine work just fine ^_^, try to redo it, hashtable work with Handle ID, so of course it'll work with Raw Code.

I'll give that Table system a try. Can anyone teach me how to use it though?

So for example, say using a Hashtable, my function would be like this:

Code:
call SaveInteger(udg_Hashtable_Global, StringHash("blahblah"), GetHandleId(u), i)

What would I write to save that using the Table system? Also, how would I call it? Sorry, I'm still learning how to use JASS.

JASS:
library someLib initializer init
globals
    private Table t //declare the table
endglobals

private function init takes nothing returns nothing
    set t = Table.create() //create the table
endfunction

set t[GetHandleId(u)] = i //use it inside this library
if t[GetHandleId(u)] == 10 then //restore the value to something, for example inside a if

// note:
// to you understand easily
//
// SaveInteger(private hashtable that you never see, this is the instance of table - in this case 't', value inside [], i)
//
// by default, table save integer, but you can save other things too, ie:
// set t.unit[some key] = u
// set t.boolean[some key] = true
// set t.string[some key] = "hello"
//
// If you need other line of any type already used, create another table
endlibrary

This can help you

How is the TableArray used then? Will the number of tables I have create considerable lag?

The link that I provided to you in the post above show you an example o TableArray.

No

Can you explain to me how to use it? The link has an example, but I honestly can't tell how to use it. For example, what is a thistype variable?

thistype is used to allocate structs
basically, you need to do [ljass]local thistype this = thistype.allocate[/ljass]
where thistype is like an integer variable that refers to the struct as the variable type

[ljass]thistype[/ljass] is a simple way to refer to "this struct" when you have to deal with it
JASS:
struct TEST
    static method someMethod takes nothing returns nothing
        local TEST this
    endmethod
endstruct

JASS:
struct TEST
    static method someMethod takes nothing returns nothing
        local thistype this
    endmethod
endstruct

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
    I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
    Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
