Anyone care to explain timer usage...?

Well, everyone keeps saying to use a timer system (in a bunch of different threads scattered everywhere), so I went and found one that I liked (TimerUtils Blue, in this case. Looked like the easiest to learn (KT2 is confusing...) :D), but I have no idea how to use it.
Now, the documentation says to do: [ljass]local timer t = NewTimer()[/ljass], which creates a timer, but after that. I'm stuck (other than ReleaseTimer(), which I know how to use (it destroys a timer)).

So, how to I use this brand-new, shiny timer?
How to I implement it into a trigger, how do I set it, how do I make it useful, etc...

Thanks for any help.

KT2?! Confusing?! It has exactly two functions. One of them takes three arguments, the other takes none. What's so confusing?

I have no idea, really. It just confuses me...
Oh, and HOLY CRAP THAT WAS PROBABLY THE QUICKEST REPLY EVER.
Seriously. That was fast.

JASS:
function Callback takes nothing returns boolean
    local integer Data = KT_GetData() //Get attached data. If you don't want it, just call KT_GetData().
    //Do stuff.
    if something then
        //Returning true makes the system stop calling the callback.
        return true
    endif
    //Returning false tells the system to call the function when the timer expires again.
    return false
endfunction

function Omg takes nothing returns nothing
    call KT_Add(function Callback, data, period)
endfunction

Yep. Still confusing.

Remember, I'm no JASS master...

It's less complicated than TU blue. It's not a tough concept. Read over it a few times.

You can ignore data attaching right now. Just make sure to call KT_GetData exactly once in the callback, whatever you do.

The callback is the function that is fired after the timer expires.

It means that...
[lJASS]KT_Add(function Callback, 0, 10/*This is the period.*/)[/lJASS]

It means that Callback (a function) will be fired every ten seconds until the function returns true.

Just like how your unit death trigger fires the condition when a unit dies.

The callback must have KT_GetData called exactly once.

Okay, that makes sense.
Thanks for explaining.

Geez that's useful...
JASS has no way to replicate easily this process? (awkward english in an attempt not to "split the infinite")

I assume once the function returns true, it stops using processing power and no longer contributes to lag (in-game/computer lag)?

If you give KT a period of 5, it will fire that function every 5 seconds until it returns true. After which, it stops calling the function.

Not sure if your intention was to answer my question...but my question still remains...

Do you know?

>I assume once the function returns true, it stops using processing power and no longer contributes to lag (in-game/computer lag)?
That is correct.

Think of it kind of like this.

Let's say you have a function which takes an integer and then returns whether or not it should terminate, or be called again the same amount of time later.

Like imagine if you could have a timer that used a function that took an integer, an integer which you defined when you started the timer!

That's KT2.

Except instead of literally taking an integer, the integer is obtained by calling [LJASS]KT_GetData()[/LJASS].

Return true is like pause & destroy timer.
Return false is like do nothing.

Hope that helps.

What do you mean? Vanilla Jass? Well, yeah. With lots and lots of globals. And work.

JASS:

function Callback takes nothing returns boolean
    local integer Data = KT_GetData()
    local boolean b = false
    call BJDebugMsg("Just a test, to see if I'm actually doing this right...")
    if b == true then
        return true
    endif
    return false
endfunction

function Stuff takes nothing returns nothing
    call KT_Add(function Callback, 0, 1)
endfunction
function myFunct takes nothing returns nothing
    local trigger t = CreateTrigger( )
    call TriggerAddAction(t, function Stuff)
endfunction

Am I doing it right?

I suppose so.

Remember, if you don't actually need the data, just call KT_GetData().

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
    I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
    Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
