Okay, I only have a few friends that play WC3 anymore. I usually just like making maps, but they only play either DOTA or elimination tournament. I am quite possibly the worst DOTA player ever. I have played so many games, and I feel like I am getting nowhere. Is it a thing that just comes to you, or is there some helpful advice I can get.

Well, I think it helps to pick ranged heroes if you are kind of nooby. And buy the move speed items.

That way, if you get weak, you can escape easily.

I like to practice single player just to get used to retreating on time. Or at least I liked to. When I didn't have the internet.

I suggest playing single player a bit and getting used to backing off. The point is to feed off of creeps, not to push. You push when you are at a high level.

Basically pro players (Who have played it over a year.) know each hero strenghts and weakneses. Don' t try to chace enemies if you are weaker or know nearby are or could be supporting enemy heroes.
Read guides for heroes and stay back a bit (Don' t play rambo.) If you feel you could be ganked don' t wait and flee.
Check minimap often.

I feel this thread will be closed soon (We got dota-allstars forums for this kind of chat.).

i too am a poor dota player. i only play it sometimes. most of the games are banlisted against newbie players. so i dont even join.

the only things i can say to help is. retreat often. never push alone. never tank tower shots without a tankish hero. stand behind your towers when enemy creeps get close, and kill the weakest creeps to get gold.

if you have Area of effect spells that damage more than 1 creep. using them early on in the game can build up your gold supply fast.

again i am a newbie at dota. so using my is at your own risk. but a few good tactics i learned are

Sniper hero with Super High Mana. results in using Ultimate many many times. and the snipers ultimate is very useful for escaping foes. i like to take a few gems that grant mana bonus, some wards to see invisable units and boots of teleport. so i can move around, sniping near death escaping foes.
(plz do not use this tactic to KS.)

Number 1 piece of advice i can give is this. use teamwork. no single player can defeat a team of 2-3 using well thought out teamwork.

[edit] forgot something. research the items you will be using first. picking the wrong items for your hero can get you banlisted by most hosts, dota players and hosts are well known for their understanding and friendly nature. LOL.

it really depends on what hero best suits you. I personally like the blood seeker because of he is the fastest in the game and when used properly can be an amazing ganker. Once you find a hero you like just keep using him and maybey go to www.dota-allstars.com and go to the game stratgeys so you can know everything you need to know about your hero such as skill order, items, strageys, guide on skills, and just about everything you need to know. Also dota is a major team game like some have already mentioned above so if you are bad at teamwork your probaby going to lose.
