port forward using a modem and router

I used to be able to port forward when I had my PC connected straight to the modem but now my PC is connected to a Netgear WGR514v9 router, and the router is connected to my speedstream 4200 modem (so more computers can access internet). Problem is, I can't seem to port forward on the router and when i try and make a static IP i cant connect to the internet.

please help
