With Anonymous Denial of Service attacks and then the twin hacks of PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment, Sony's online infrastructure has been taking a battering over the last few weeks—and it's not over yet. Another successful hack against the company is being reported by security firm F-Secure. A Web server used to host Sony's Thai site has been broken into, and is now being used to host a phishing site that targets customers of an Italian credit card company.

I think we should make a news subforum for sony getting hacked.

Why are the people hacking Sony ?

Doesn't make any sence to me :s

Because Sony is going after Geohotz, the guy who figured out how to hack the PS3 first (as well as the iPhone and iPad), and they have been constantly pushing bullshit cases against him. If you look them up, they're pretty much giving every last ditch effort to get something out of Geohotz because they're pissed, and they keep loosing the court battles for the most part. And the general community of hackers is getting burnt over Sony doing that to Geohotz, and Sony removing the ability to run "OtherOS" on your PS3 (Linux). So Sony just pissed off the wrong group of people.

except at the expense of millions of costumers who just want to play their games online... sounds like a group of idiots who are throwing a fit about their pirated games no longer working. it was sony's choice in the first place to allow use of linux and people abused it, so like a toy it had to be taken away.

sometimes you gotta hit em where it hurts.. but these people have a legitimate reason to be angry, and no, it's not a toy that had to be taken away, it is something that was bought and paid for and then disabled unjustly because it was easier for sony to disable it then to fix their crap

how is being angry about not being able to play pirated games a legitimate reason? they can use linux if they reset the playstation to default factory. they just cant play online and for good reason. no one should have pirated games and play them online.

Don't be ignorant, this has nothing to do with pirated games. It is about purchasing an item on the grounds that it can perform task X, and then having the company that sold it to you steal back that right, ie. deny it later. Geohutz found the peaceful way to fix this, which is to find a way to keep the right they originally paid for, and Sony sued him. So Sony simply wouldn't stop attacking the people who purchased this right in the first place, and now they're gonna pay for it. :)

I'm sorry if there's some collateral damage to your gaming network in the interrum, but they're avoiding it as best they can.
See this, also: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...ncompetent-and-we-dont-steal-credit-cards.ars

Remember, the hacking community is a bunch of tinkerers, more often than not. They don't need a reason to try to jailbreak something, it's probably much like you solving a cross-word puzzle. It's a legal activity, it's a puzzle, it's fun. If a company originally promised a feature and then removed it, getting it back is even more satisfying from a justice sense.

Here's the crunch:
Really, standing up for what's right is more important than access to your gaming network.

pirated games =/= running linux, but sony dosen't care since it's an easy fix for them, why can't you see the difference? also, the hard reset isn't a solution - what if I want to be able to also play ps3 games, or do most of the other things that a PS3 can do over a $300 linux box? do you seriously suggest doing a hard reset every day? what's wrong with legally doing what I could legally do a few years ago?

sony hurt a large community by assuming everyone who wants to use the other OS feature also plays pirated games, causing damage to many legitimate users - and now the hackers are also causing damage to legitimate users, see the cause/effect? was this really that hard to predict? your angry that you, a legitimate playstation network users are unable to use something you are entitled to? well guess what, the legitimate other OS users are angry that they are unable to use something that they are entitled to as well, only they decided to do something about it - what about you? will you do anything? would you do something if you could? no? well others would and will

It's because I can't play PSN anymore or else I get banned.

Worth pondering for a gamer without owning any PS3, can PS3s connect to each other without even connecting to PSN? (Wireless router, alternate PSN-esque connection, etc.)

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though

Heard Houston got hit pretty bad by storms last night. Hope all is well with TH.
