I think you should investigate the Sync game cache stuff for GetHost/Delay, it might work, and don't need any unit selection which can theoretically fail, since the selection/de-selection is not instant, and it will be totally silent.
If with a really bad luck you order to deselect an unit , and before it is done the player deselect it, the unit will be reselected from your script.
Ofc this case could happen only if the player have 12 units selected
Anyway using dummies units just for sync local stuff is so lame.
At very least you can use only one dummy unit for all player instead of one for each player.

Meh, just forgot what i said, it can't work for this stuff, only to sync all local datas :banghead:
But still, you can use only one dummy unit and select it locally for players, the event will fire for all players and you can use GetTriggerPlayer
Ghan has said he has fixed this. Monovertex please confirm this fix. This was only a problem with people that had signatures in the upper levels like not the special members but the respected members.
