say there is a blade master versus another hero; and the blade has like 20 hp and the other hero has 200hp and clearly is going to win, then the blademaster does a level 3 crit and wins o.o

No. Warcraft III uses a pseudo random number generator, so critical strike, evasion and bash are rigged. The longer you go without, the more chance there is that it will proc. That means if you get killed by a crit, you probably had it coming. It isn't really luck. :)

3. Must the AI work for any arena, or just this specific one? (For example, I know there is only 1 fountain of health and 1 of mana, so I could order it to go there, but if it was another arena with 3 fountains of health and mana, I'd have to calculate the distance between my Hero and the fountains to order it to go to the nearest one.)

What are you talking about? There are two of each one here. And Andrew specified this earlier, you are not allowed to code for this specific map.

Not necessarily :p. My current hero can beat a Blademaster or a Mountain King and its AI is still basic :D.

My guess is the Mountain King is going to be the number one hero used, followed by Blade Master.

edit - If I remember correctly, Night Elf heroes benefit from an upgrade (ultravision I think it's called) which gives them the same vision at night as they have in day. Will Night Elf heroes be given this upgrade or no? Sorry if this was already answered.

a human can SEE the fountains, there is no black mask.. and a human can also see the fountains on the minimap.
does that mean that my ai can directly refer to the fountains? (order attack/move to fountains)

question:
a human can REMEMBER..
does that mean i can store points in the map that my ai has previously been to?

Actually, you can order it to go directly to the closest fountain found (that means you are not to use regions or coordinates, but other methods). Already answered.

As Blade said, a human can see through the fog of war and locate a fountain. The AI should be allowed to do so as well.

I have thought of some funny messages and it would have been a nice touch :D.

EDIT: From my testings, I have got to the conclusion that the Blademaster and the Demon Hunter are the most troubling Heroes (against my own, of course)... =/

The battle will last as long as there is a kill or 7 minutes has passed.

When following an enemy unit, by right-clicking on it while having selected a unit of your own, even if that unit gets out of the range of the follower, the follower will still go after it for a while, until stopping for good. Are we allowed to recreate this effect?

You are allowed to re-create that effect.

You don't have to issue a stop order just because the hero has left your range - if you targeted him in your range and he happens to leave your range, it's logical your hero tries to follow the smart command and find him until stopping.

We are not forbidden to make some triggers in GUI and others in Jass, right?

That is not forbidden.

No, you have only one chance to get this one right.

To make things more fair, can you put corpses around the arena for the Paladin's Resurrection, Death Knight's Animate Dead, Warden's Avatar thing? Also, what about pre-placed NEUTRAL PASSIVE (so they don't attack the participants) for the Dark Ranger's Charm? What about friendly Undead units with disabled attack for Death Knight's Sacrifice?

I was thinking of that.

However, that would make certain places on the map likely abusable - lure enemy, cast animate dead, trap the enemy.

And the Warden's Avatar could just go collecting a vast army of invulnerables...

Anyway, this idea is not in the garbage bin, just, it needs more thought before implementing it to the map.

What do you mean?

All the heroes will be revealed after the AIs have been submitted.

So there's no way you can change code afterwards.

What about naming variables?

Just name them like you'd normally do.

Leave that to us.

How am I supposed what player will own my Hero in the battle? :| Or, how am I supposed to know on what index will my Hero be in the contestants array from the map?

EDIT: I am sorry for the double post, I replied quickly and was thinking at coding, did not see I replied earlier...

One option would be a globals block for configuration or...

Just group through players and search who is not an allie.

There will be two players on the map, not that difficult.

What kind of awards are there?

CHAMPION AWARD- the AI who collects the most match wins, the overall winner

CORSAIR AWARD - the AI who gets the fastest kill

CLOWN AWARD - the AI who performs the most funniest, peculiar or stupid thing by mistake

Well, you can't really do that. You will just find that Player 1 is an enemy of Player 2 and vice-versa. And what have you accomplished with that?

Guess I'll go with a configuration thing. Better that way.

What he's trying to say is that putting standard melee heroes in an arena is a horrible idea.
They were made and balanced for melee games, not arenas. There are so many abilities that are practically useless for an arena it's not funny anymore.

It's like... 80% of the outcome is based on the hero you pick, not the AI. Sorry, but that doesn't look like a good basis for a contest to me.

for a contest like this everyone should get the same hero (maybe even a custom hero).

...personally, i think the map should be changed right away..

too much sight blockers, i cant see past 400 range.

and the pathing is too small.
there are some parts my hero cant get through..

and it's to large to walk around in.
there's a probability that in 7 minutes the 2 competitors wont eve meet.

Honest to be, I did a script for my Hero that actually tries to avoid the enemy and they still meet in less than 2 minutes, in every test I do :p. The map is small, I think it's good enough. Allows for more AI strategies and puts a challenge when it comes to AI movement.
