The People's Republic of China - also known as Zh?ngguó - has eclipsed Japan and is now the world's second largest economy.

According to World Bank projections cited by Reuters, China remains on course to overtake the United States and assume the role of the world's number one economic superpower by the year 2025.

I doubt that China will be able to maintain their economy. However, I wonder why they are catching up NOW and not in the past 20 years. I mean, nothing much has changed for China, or? (well, other than more firms moving to China to get cheap manufacture, blabla)

You realise china doesn't have much independant power. They are so heavily dependant on exports that if those stop, their long term economic power is actually pretty insignificant.

The US/Europe are heavily dependant on China's exports too. They won't stop anytime soon, and if they did, it probably wouldn't change China's economic position in relation to the rest of the world, as everyone will suffer.

There are over 1.3 billion people in China. Keep in mind that not everyone "work their asses off for 60 cents an hour". Not everything in China is a bunch of crap. How many of you criticizing China have actually been there?

Really, what's crappy here is the media. They are always reporting the bad sides of China, and not talking about the good sides it has developed.

Edit: "People being threatened in their own workplace". Source? Besides, I'm sure there's a corresponding case in whichever country you come from. Whether it's revealed to the public or not.

Also, I have to ask you one thing. Have you ever been to China? Or you just simply summarized it all from the news/internet?

The population of China is about 1,3 billion, making almost one in every five person on the planet a Chinese (resident). It's also the third largest country covering up to 9,600,000 km2, while Europe has 10,180,000 km2. Stop judging the whole country by isolated incidents and it's history that goes back to over 3000 years.

A lot of people are understanding how china is doing better in economic terms, people are filming in china and they show that china isnt a farmland anymore, its starting to become a modern nation.

Apparently the equivalent of New York City is being built in China every few days (its something like that, im not sure about the actual time, but they are building NYC equivalent cities)

It really comes at no surprise when a country and a workforce is that big. However, while China is growing people in these economical predictions always overlook the Sociopolitical climate of the People's Republic of China. After all you can easily make a Utopia by shrouding the truth in shadow.

But when you also look at it, China has cheated in many ways of the International economy of not only the United States but of Europe, Russia and all over Asia. They have done things in the sense of inflation, exchange rates and job importation from other countries that hurt the world economy as a whole. But the fault also blames in our own countries for not labeling China as a currency manipulator among other things. So as far I can see it, its a "mixed story".

English is considered the "Universal" language in business and in world. (Hell even the pope uses it over Church Latin) It is the most spoken language in the world. In population and in Area (How many countries speak it; While Chinese has a lot of population, Area wise its very small).

I am still thinking the possibility that the Sci-Fi Serenity movie made and the two languages will just combine into one and then squash the others into extinction.
