Cool, and I'm nearly finished on my first spell (probably the most complicated of the lot). I should have the hero complete by the end of the week if I keep working at a good pace. Can we describe our heroes and abilities before submitting the demo map, or are you only allowed to describe when you submit the file?

I guess that would count as WIP so why shouldnt it be allowed? Im curious of your ideas ^^

BTW: does nobody want to have a look at my hero? i need opinios how you think about her... :( (page 8)

One badass awesome hero.
I know absolutely nothing about triggers, but I got 2 in-game things to point:

-I should highten the cooldown of the ulti a bit, cuz its quite low and I could slaughter 1 whole group of creeps with it :D

-Bleedjumpthingy is quite powerfull.
Wel, this doesnt matter when you jump into creeps, but if you would use it to jump into an enemy's hero in a meleemap it would be quite mean....especialy if it was a mage :p

OK, here's my hero idea:

<Proper name> the Tauren Earth Shaper (subject to change)

This hero is a mage with all actives, which don't have a general mana cost (not all are high cost, not all are low) but the spells have a longer cooldown than most (to make up for the fact that he has 4 active abilities). All his abilities specialize in rocks, earth and that kind of thing.

DON'T STEAL MY IDEAS! :p

Abilities:

Shifting Earth
The Earth Shaper crushes the earth beneath him, forcing it to crumble and quake. While the ground is crumbling, all enemies units in the AoE will have their attack and movement slowed by a small, but increasing amount every 0.75 seconds. Lasts 4/8/12 seconds.

Petrify
The Earth Shaper summons a rock to encase the target unit, petrifying it. While the unit is petrified, it will take 50% less damage but will be unable to move. Any damage dealt to the petrified unit has a 40/30/20% chance to break the rock, releasing the unit from it's prison.

Stone Shield (subject to change)
The Earth Shaper conjures 2/3/4 rocks around him, joined to his body with magic, and will continually revolve around the Earth Shaper. Anytime the Earth Shaper takes damage, a portion of it will be distributed amongst all the rocks. Once the rocks have taken 75x (Total rock count) in damage, they will shatter, leaving the Earth Shaper open to enemy attack.

Shockwave - Ultimate
The Earth Shaper warps the ground beneath his feet, turning it into a wave of earth, then causes it to hurtle towards the target point. Any enemy units who get caught in its path will be thrown into the air, and when they land, they will take damage and be temporarily stunned from the impact.

An Earthquake that slows more over time... yet doesn't deal damage to buildings. I don't think that's a particularly good idea, nor would I find it to be a useful spell to use.

The best idea of the bunch; this is useful and it is a fairly original idea. Could be very strategically used if it could be cast on both allies and enemies.

Certainly not an ingenious idea, but it is better than the Earthquake spell. I'd find it useful, to be sure, but its effects wouldn't knock my socks off.

How is that any different from the Crypt Lord's Impale?

My tentative idea for this contest is as follows:
The Planesbender (AKA: Nether Mage v2.0) - A hero very accustomed to using the long-lost magic of the planes (read: banish). Adept at stalling moderately-sized armies for short periods with little assistance.​

@pyrogasm: There is one other thing that differs between Shifting Earth and Earthquake. Shifting Earth will NOT be channelled (it'd be absolutely moronic if it was, units could just wait a few seconds. And since it's not channelled, it'll synergize with Petrify by holding the unit in place, allowing the slow effect to build up while you do some damage to the target). And I may very well change this idea unless I can get the stackable slow to work.

Petrify was probably my favourite idea (if not the most visually great spell) since it's something different. and thanks for the idea of targetting allies, I just hope the base spell will work properly VS allies ^^

the idea for stone shield was just a reasonably strong defence ability, since the hero is going to be a melee mage (only suitable model i could find uses an axe (and is mage-y), and i couldnt find a suitable base wc3 model)

and I never mentioned that the shockwave would do a knockback as well, and it doesnt use any special effect model as such, itll be a linear terrain deform.

hey, currently working on my first spell, i'll make an undead hero who specializes in poisons and slowing down enemies.

So my question is: I wont get disqualified if i use systems i create myself e.g. a jump system which simulates units flying parabola or sth. like that??

ah and heres the spell, im still searching some effects to improve it^^ (dont mind the triggers they arent final at all :) )

it creates an effect similiar to shockwave, but throws every enemies on its path towards the casting hero and slows them on impact.

open for any critics and suggestions ;)

Lots of Totally Hot effects (No, seriously, Hot) and suicide Skills with even more sexy fire effects ;)

You'll also have fun with the dynamics of the Fire bug =)
Need a few more days with the Coding (I am doing something I have NEVER tried before :p )
Anyways, this is how the Skills will look like:

Skill 1: Liquid Fire: Throws a cask of flamable Liquid towards a Target Location. Apon impact it explodes, dealing Damage to all enemy Units in an AOE.
*Note* I might think about making the Damage over Time =)

Skill 2: Troll Hybrid-Mixture: Whenever the Troll Firebug attacks a Unit, there is a chance of stunning that Unit for 1 Second (Normal Bash). There is a chance that the Troll Firebug will explode apon Death, dealing Damage to all enemy Units around him.

Skill 3: Troll Fiah Bugh: flies up high and crashes apon a Target area. Burns all enemy Units apon impact. Too bad that the troll doesn't survive :p

Skill 4: This will be a Suprise :D :D :D

If you made it yourself\made it while this contest is goingI dont think it matters.

Suicide skills aren't balanced. And become hard to test.
you can probably rush in with the troll, kill half an army and heroes. then charge in with your army. (and another hero maybe)

Cool idea hate, but Romek does have a point. Suicidal units would be difficult to use, and in a melee map, would the continuous revival costs/time be worth the kills you would get? And I can't see how any of them would go well together (maybe blow up, and % chance on death damage triggers dealing even more boominess?).

EDIT: Daskunk, could you add a Maybe to my name, I'm unsure if I'll continue with the competition since I don't have alot of time. If I get a chance to complete the hero before contest ends, I'll let you know.

One of my spell ideas

Hey here's 1 spell idea for my hero.



Trans-dimensional Teleport
The Nether Summoner calls a demon from the nether world to suck your enemies into another dimension and drop them back onto the earth.

Teleports one random enemy unit per second within a set range of your hero, dealing damage relative to the distance teleported.

Level 1
100-600 radius
1/10 of distance in damage
Lasts 6 seconds

Level 2
200-700 radius
1/8 of distance in damage
Lasts 8 seconds

Level 3
300-800 radius
1/6 of distance in damage
Lasts 10 seconds
