what is wrong with blight?

terrain is 100% done as far as what I can do with it, however, thank god, it is being worked on

Blight is evil, bad... it's just wrong. :p
Look how it stops at the river and then pops up at the other side of it again, grrr.

And it doesn't fit to snow. The two snow cliffs in the undead base look really out of place. (Well they don't fit to the Orc base either, you could use gras cliffs in that base)

As a general note, if you place natural cliffs you should use the cliff tile besides those cliffs too.
See, your paths look similar to this:


You need some snow besides those cliffs for a more natural effect.


It doesn't have to be much, just a bit to get ride those "straight lines of snow" besides the cliff.


Aw sorry, I got carried away. I should shut up until AceHart is finished. ^^

I'm probably going to get my rep reset, or banned for saying this about an admin's map;
But the terrain is horribly bland and flat. I understand it's only 75% done, but it should look alot better than that at even 50%.

Why would you care about getting your rep reset? The only time where it is accepatable to be afraid of it is when you have 100 or more rep because you lose a custom user title capability.

Also, I don't think they would ban you for that reason. Lol...

But really, it is best to give constructive critisism than just flaming at them... ;)

Well, the terrain looks alright. I believe it just needs to have some raised levels along with doodads. It may be good to give it weather or fog too to add a "natural" feeling.

I hope this project gets finished soon! :D

Looks great emjlr3, are you giving an unprotected version for us to sniff around your trigger work?

As for terrain, I personally don't care one bit, however from what I saw it is a wee bit too dark.

Your current item "system" is recipe items as well as an inventory (specific body parts) system right?

I have an idea to make items in this game a bit more unique.

Instead of simple recipes and "get this" and "get that" and it finally combines into a bigger item and you're like "yay me claw and me hammer became a sword!!12", why not enable the users to forge/assemble/make their items?

Hell, they could even upgrade them this same way.

More powerful items would require more time, instead of only more gold. You could need to gather pieces that you get on kills, on the ground, while doing a side-quest, whatever!

Eventually, it wouldn't require the "maker" to stand still and wait for its item to create, it would be done by the shop. But it would take time, the more powerful the item is, the more time it takes! Some of them could also require the player to directly help in its fabrication.

Also, the basic items would still require no time at all - they're basic after all. Smithies make them regularly, so they always have some in stock don't they? ;)

Just an idea out my head... Take it or leave it!

I think it would help improve player decisions. Yes, items are great, but if you don't get them instantly... what happens? You need to change a bit yer tactics!

Interesting map concept.

and very original idea about the items

you could further have priests who bless your items (this adding some type of bonus), or witches that enchant your items

i have since scrapped the item/body part idea

in theory it seemed really neat, i managed to code it all up, however it required a huge system, including a spell book, item and ability per body part
as well as the bonus mod system, including the 100 or abilities needed to be imported
then every effect for all the items need to be coded and detected
dueable, I just did not fell like going through all that hassle
plus i would need to make a few items per body part, which would start to get lengthy and very time consuming, of which I have next to none of in the first place

however, thnx for the ideas guys!

as far as recipes go, there will be sort of an upgrade system, not really recipes, not 100% sure yet, I like the idea Doom suggested

good idea from Dax too, though I am not sure if I am willing to invest the time into making the system doable, playable and balanced, heh

you would be amazed how close to testing this is, honestly :)

Alright, big update, so be prepared..... :)

Terrain is currently under development, or, improvement, from Acehart, it will hopefully be done...ASAP

I have currently finished 4 heroes completely, 2 recycled of my favorite heroes from Hulks Heroes (updated of course, not only the code mind you), and 2 brand new ones

I plan on having 5 for an alpha testing release, so I may either spend the time to devise some new ideas and make it, or I may pick on of my favs. from AoD1, and recycle him/her

There are so many things (other then heroes) I have added since the last update, there are just to many to mention :)

Things I am currently looking to add before the alpha release, include, however may not be limited to:

  1. Basic quests
  2. More upgrades for allied creeps/towers
  3. Basic "uber" items
  4. Beacons
  5. Re-Balance command
  6. Alternative hero revival system
  7. Altering ability growth : base effect + stat bonuses
  8. Neutral creep drops
  9. Neutral creeps themselves :)

Now to suggestions and ideas:

  1. Quests - ideas for short, simple solo/team quests, I currently have none.
  2. Uber items - how do you get them? what some are? forged? assembled? etc.?
  3. Ally upgrades - there is currently a ranged upgrade, melee upgrade and tower upgrade, other suggestions?
  4. Beacons - the current idea is, a few located strategic points around the map, you take control of it by standing on it, and it becomes your teams. These grants bonuses to your team, in different ways, as long as they are held. The enemy can take them back in the same manner, though it takes more time to unconvert it from yours, then convert it to theirs. Suggestions for bonuses, etc.?
  5. Hiring Aid - the ability to hire a neutral creep like guy, which follows you through AI, and can fight for you. There will be several ones to choose from, with unique abilities, and you are limited to one per player.
  6. New Hero Revival - as seen in Hulks Heroes, alternatively to waiting, you can also, use your ghost, which is spawned where you die, and run back to your grave, located in your base, and revive yourself that way, if you so choose. Just another option, as opposed to waiting.
  7. Enchanter - as opposed to uber items(still in progress), you can instead, purchase/find base items, which have their own innate properties, and which you can enchant with various spells, doing different things depending on what kind of artifact it is.
  8. Creep Drops - currently none. I was thinking, little trinkets that are stackable. They do not do much, but if you get a lot of them they can be good. For instance, "chipped axe" gives + 2 damage, however, if you manage to find 5, they stack, and you got +10 damage :).

Ideas scrapped:

Projectile Interaction - I currently have 1 ability which tosses a projectile....if there are ever a bit more, possibly I may reconsider

the release will come after the terrain is done, the new hero is complete, and several of those system are ironed out

My suggestions?
Try some of these.

Quests: ~Bloodshed: Have at least 4 enemy heroes dead at once.
~Recover artifacts.

Uber Items: Obtained by: Combining objects disguised as doodads, obtain recipe information by killing more heroes/items or completing quests, solving riddles/scrambled words.

Ally Upgrades: Autocast spells, Bash/Critical Strike/Evasion, Focus attacks on Heroes.

Beacons: Treat your units like Lava Spawns and have them split into two units with a certain number of attacks, lowered range on enemy ranged creeps, extra damage based on number of buffs the attacked/ing unit has.

Hiring Aid: Fight Neutral creeps to rescue prisoners.

Hero Revival: ~Trivia
~Betting (Multiple betting options; for example: If an ally kills a creep in the next 3 seconds I revive, if not I cannot wager for 5 seconds, if an enemy purchases an item in the next 30 seconds I revive, if not it gets half the bought item's money back. Duration times are big gambles: the longer it gets the more room there is for it to pay off but you need to wait for a longer duration to find out.)

Creep Drops: Runes? Rune of Healing, Mana, or Ressurection (Gives you the killed creep).
