Daizi Zheng, a Chinese developer who is currently based in London, has modified a Nokia cell phone to run on Coca-Cola or any other sugary solution.

Zheng says the modified phone can run three or four times longer on a single charge than a phone using a conventional lithium ion battery, and can also be fully biodegradable.

As Zheng explains, a sugar-powered phone could potentially offer a much more environmentally friendly power source than lithium ion batteries. The new phone's bio battery, which basically acts as a fuel cell, uses enzymes as the catalyst to generate electricity from carbohydrates.

The phone can run for several hours, and produces water and carbon dioxide as the battery runs down. The phone can then be emptied out and refilled with more Coca-Cola.

And why is that?

Well, have you ever tried poring coca cola on a computer motherboard and actually made it run fully functionally for more than 24 hours after that? It just is not possible even if you clean it out good with special detergants not to damage the electronics^^
Not to mention how sticky it get's if you accidently spil some cola on the side:thdown:

Edit: Cool thing, but I would say that they would have to be refillable with some kind of canisters with some really efficient mix, cola can't be the most efficient solution there it:)

Try pouring battery water onto the motherboard instead. Any liquid would've spoil it... =.=

I believe the Coca Cola is used to generate electricity. Basically a electrochemical cell. It won't directly be in contact with the handphone circuits...

This is true though. Sticky and attract ants. Can be annoying. After several usage, it'd be damn saturated. But of course, it should be washable.

But a cool discovery!

My next door neighbor, China, is just way too smart...

Let me just say, I am one of the people who tries to do 'stuff'. You know the giant NES? I made my own, a bit bigger. I took apart my computer and positioned it all around my room for a Sci-Fi look. I'm really into doing stuff like this.

Now, maybe he can make this method available to others?

First, you need to document your "projects". After that, others may read it and give you credits for inspiring them.

Not really, battery water would just clean it since battery water is just plain old distilled water:D If you have said battery acid I would have believed you;)
And you know that the other sentence is not true, there are actually things that won't hurt the electronics one bit^^

Well duh sherlock:rolleyes: Hehe, I just could not resist an oppertunity to use that smiley:p
Edit: btw, you should know that is not true either since the battery is part of the circuit, else it would not give any power you know:D

Bad pun! Let's see if anyone else catches it.

And while most people think this is eco-friendly, please remember the cost of running machinery to mix and produce the coca cola as well as bottling and shipment. Like Whitesock said, a gasoline phone could be more economical, but that's also more volatile and would also make your phone smell.

Basically, it's a double edged sword.

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
