Homemade Angel Biscuits
Are you ready to have some delightful scratch biscuits? Lets get to work!
Ingredients:
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups buttermilk, cold
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup shortening, cold
- 2 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
- Cut in unsalted cold butter and shortening with a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy
- Add the yeast mixture and the buttermilk to the flour mixture and stir until the dough comes together
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 3 to 4 times
- Roll the dough to 1-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter
- Place biscuits on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C)
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown
- Serve warm
