Homemade Angel Biscuits

Are you ready to have some delightful scratch biscuits? Lets get to work!

Ingredients:
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk, cold
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup shortening, cold
  • 2 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)
Directions:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
  • Cut in unsalted cold butter and shortening with a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  • In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy
  • Add the yeast mixture and the buttermilk to the flour mixture and stir until the dough comes together
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 3 to 4 times
  • Roll the dough to 1-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter
  • Place biscuits on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C)
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown
