Hot Dogs Creole

Creole style hot dogs featuring a homemade Creole sauce!

  • 2 Tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/3 cup Madeira wine
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Dash of Tabasco sauce
  • 8 hot dogs or hot dog length sausages
  • 8 buns
  • Skillet
  • In a skillet, saute the onion and celery in butter until lightly browned
  • Add remaining sauce ingredients and simmer 5 minutes
  • Prick the skins of the hot dogs and place them in the sauce
  • Cover and simmer slowly about 15 minutes until thoroughly heated
  • Lightly butter buns and warm in moderate oven
  • Put hot dogs in buns and spoon on sauce
