Chilling experiment shows how children were happy to walk off with a stranger in the park after just 90 seconds

Investigation showed fake 'predator' approaching children in the park while their mothers - who had agreed to take part - were distracted. Seven out of nine agreed to go with him thanks to his friendly manner. Parents are urged to remind children that all strangers could pose a threat

Most parents go to great lengths to ensure that their children exercise caution when approached by strangers. But a new investigation has revealed that their efforts may be in vain - as the majority of children are happy to be led away from their parents by someone they do not know.

Parents are now being urged to remind their children that predators are not always 'spooky cartoon characters', but often act in a friendly manner to try and win their victims' trust.

Dont trust anybody boy; always take your knife with you and never ever speak to anybody. Better stay at home at every moment, have a close watch at all doors and windows, always keep the lights on and the doors locked. have your gun ready, you never know who might be behind the next corner. never open the doors, for nobody, no matter who they say they are.

Thats the 21st century in a nutshell.

That's why it's called "watching" your children... 'cuz you're supposed to watch them.

"their mothers - who had agreed to take part - were distracted."
People get distracted all the time, 90 seconds isn't really a long time either.
I can't really say anything else as you will just say "they shouldn't get distracted then", but it's human nature for our brains to just get sidetracked thinking about other things.

Say you go to park with your child for like an hour, you aren't going to be watching them for all that hour.
You might have a nice chat with other parents, might just want to enjoy just being there.

Never chat with other parents. NEVER CHAT WITH ANYBODY ELSE! They might be child molesters trying to distract you!
Better have your gun ready when you are going through park; you never know who might be there. These monsters might be everywhere!

I'm not saying that this isn't a good thing to know, but if you're taking your kids to the park then you should go ahead and play with them. If they don't want to play with you, then they're probably old enough to know better than to run off with some nice stranger. If your kid does want to play with you but you'd rather sit around and talk with other parents than play with them, then don't be surprised when something happens because you weren't watching your kid. If you didn't want to play with them, you shouldn't have taken them to a playground.

A child always wants to play with their parent(s) and not other children?

If you didn't want to play with them, you shouldn't have taken them to a playground.
You don't take a child to a playground just to play with them.
Sometimes you go there because it's nice to get some fresh air, let the child socialize with other children, enjoy the fact that a child loves to run around the park and later on in life won't enjoy it as much (probably...).

I'm not trying to say it's not the parents faults.
But there are reasons for going to the park with your child other than just to bond with them.
Yes parents should be cautious, but constantly watching them or holding their hand for everything they do just seems ridiculous.

That's fair.

In some cases children even just walk around and get lost in a matter of seconds, exchange greetings with someone and the next thing you know, bam, kid just followed a cat across the playground, into an eccentric old man's yard, through a railway station, past the bolted door, where impossible things may happen that the world has never seen before.
