As it has leaked, I took a loose listen and decided to give my initial impressions.
It's pretty low compared to old DT standards. They keep trying to do something new but due to their audience they can't really switch their style of music. In the end it just sounds like the same stuff they always did but just more tired and with less energy.
A Nightmare to Remember is an okay song. Probably the best on the album. Just the usual dream theater, though Portnoy keeps on trying to be manly and grunting stuff. Some interesting rhythmic ideas but essentially boring music.
A Rite of Passage = Radio Song 1. bleh boring and predictable.
Wither = Emo song.
The Shattered Forest = bleh. I forget it already
The Best of Time = Medley of old stuff from Octivarium (album), 6 Degrees and systematic chaos. Pretty bleh
The Count of Tuscany = Pretty average.
