different versions of mapeditor?

I was just reading some threads and even though I don't want to sound stupid, curiosity gets the best of me. What is with these different versions of map editor? I havn't even heard of these! How isolated am I?

I heard one of you talking about how "blizzard doesn't even use what comes in the box." Is it true that they used some enhanced versions of staredit? Because they even said that they used what comes from the box.

IT uses the editor from the box, but the "enhanced" ones are modified versions of the editor.

The program that comes with the box i think, is very limited.. Cuz like you can only have one race with a player in StarEdit, but with others u can have All three to pick from. Is there (in StarEdit), just outta curiosity, any way to get all 3 races by just using one player?

Yes, through the trigger "Give units to player".

btw, create units and create units with properties also work.

As for Blizzard using what comes out of the box, the actual map-makers (the guys who do map of the month, and campaigns) do not use the StarEdit that Blizzard has released to the public. Notice how, in Blizzard's map archives, the Enslavers: Dark Vengeance download includes a disclaimer that if you open this with StarEdit, some of the triggers will not show up! Also, if you look through certain Maps of the Month, they include triggers that aren't available in StarEdit. (ie in Mercenaries II, the neutral, selector player shares vision with the human players so they can see the dark templar mercenary)
