Discussion Do you think real-life game graphics will ever be done?

No. Simply because real life doesnt have pixels. I think there will always be a visible difference.

Cells, our eyes just aren't good enough to see them.

If video games polys got as small as cells, then it would be pretty real.

I remember reading somewhere that there's a reason we don't have real life graphics yet; Mainly, our brains can tell when something's not what it seems visually.

I dunno I'll have to find the article. That Crysis Engine in HD video was absolutely gorgeous oh my Lord.

well i think that you could have the most realistic seeming graphics and still make it into a fantasy world.

it wouldn't be the much of a stretch to change the sky from greyblue to red for example. of make realsticly looking trees that don't exsist in the real world.

i mean i like the idea of the //.hack shows thatd be awesome.

oh and one more thing.

i fear greatly as the quality for the videos for porn goes up..... imagine seeing ever fault in those girls... every bad detail....times 100..... picture being able to know if the girl has a std...

I heard about this thing they are doing for the Xbox and i believe the PS3 is going to have a feature just like this, but complete virtual reality in that it detects the movement of your limbs and moves the charactor ingame like that, anyone heard of this?

Thought it is back on track. I see real life graphics have their good and bad sides. Most problematic is making difference between reality and virtual world that nobody gets hurt. That you would not start playing Grand Theft Auto in reality, ouch... The Matrix movie shows entertainment side of it, it was cool film with mixed reality -- hot chick(s), lots of guns, explosions, martial arts, against gravity jumps, driving cars and flying with military helicopter.

Will it be done? Yes. We got super computers which can simulate real life (Because they are powerful). Though they could delay with giving that technology to masses for obvious and ethical reasons. I know super computer is not answer to everything. Maybe they have done tests where short clips are rendered in similar to real life just because they could do it.

I remember FBI documentary where super computer was used to calculate breaking window glass when shot.

Different graphic styles would still remain like cartoonish, comic look, in future 'old computer graphics' and real life graphics.

Most of RPG games (Like Fallout 1.2 ; not 3) that have low graphic are more Realistick then Stalker, Crisis or Call of duty... In RPG games ther is some aspect (Players imagination) its makes the game more realistick.

You got point there, people imagine missing reality feel from computer games. Tomb Raider, Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Everquest, Lineage?, Granado Espada?, Final Fantasy are few which give countless times inspiration for fan art.

Watched Cryengine 2, tweaked INSANE GRAPHICS in HD. Audio played first and frames per second were 2 (maximum maybe at sometimes 10) and it was stunning -- what a graphics.

As for my views on whether or not real-life graphics will ever be done - yes, we are so close now, aren't we? We just need better ways of processing all the data more efficiently - I'm thinking Quantum Computing. So whether it will happen anytime soon, no. Whether it will happen in the next decade or later- it's entirely a possibility.

You can tell that image is digitalized. Anti-aliasing is a big issue with high realism lighting.
