How does this work (Changable Learnable Abilities)

First I shall explain:

There is a version of DotA that contains mode known as -omg.
What this does it allows you to pick your abilities from taverns.

The interesting part is when you click the learn hero skill ability, you can learn the skills you picked, yet as far as I knew, there was no way to change a hero's hero skills in game, so I am wondering how they did this.

but you can.. just add both ability to hero then give that book which reset all abilitys skills i think will work, probably got other method but i don't remember the line

EDIT: LearningCode the taverns don't sell item and remove it, is just like shop, sell dummy units or something invisible, then when created, set expiration time to X seconds, then create the item in position of buying and order the unit to get it, so you can't see what you buy and you can buy items without slots

When you buy the item, it doesn't give the spell to the unit, it makes so the unit can learn the spell in the hero abilities tab.

That is what I am wondering how to do.

Hero learn skill just makes the hero put a point in a skill.

Some Custom Hero Wars map may be unprotected in internet, that type of map use the same system :S

I think I figured out.
5 Dummy Abilities
5 Engineering Upgrades with Y levels where Y is the number of abilities you have.

When they pick a the Xst skill, set the level of the Xst engineering upgrade to the level corresponding to the ability chosen.
