Installing The Frozen Throne with Wine to Ubuntu

I got Ubuntu 9.04 from now on :shades: I installed Reign of Chaos (RoC) from Blizzard on-line installer (tome?) with Wine and are trying to install the Frozen Throne (FT) from mounted *.iso image (I mounted with nautilus-mount-image_0.2.0-1_all.deb).

I think Wine drive paths are correct -- d: drive (I made it CD-ROM from advanced) points to /media, where *.iso image gets loaded (mounted?).

FT installer tells old story how it can't find RoC install, though it is in Wine c: folder (drive_c/Program Files/ Warcraft III, freehanded path). I even ran RoC and played melee map

I suspect Wine does not handle FT request properly therefore request gets lost in Ubuntu (or in Wine).

Has anybody experience with this 'Please Install Warcraft III before installing The Frozen Throne' error? Preferably with Ubuntu and Wine, I remember I had it with Windows XP when I did dual install and I even made thread about registry values (yes Wine registry values for RoC seem fine).

Take time with answering I work most of week and don't have time to play with computer.

OMG! Found Blizzard Tech Support responce letter to problem! You don't believe how easy is fix to this problem which is unsolved in most forums. Read letter yourself:

I have been doing some testing, recently there have been newer version of Reign of Chaos released and these will not work with older Frozen Throne installations. You may not need to do this if the game is already installed, but you could save these for later if needed.

You can try the following as a work around and this should allow you to install the Frozen Throne expansion. The following information may look like a lot of information, I have tried to make it a detailed walkthrough however and should be easy to follow.

The older installer for Frozen throne will look for files that are not installed with the newer Reign of Chaos installs, you can create 'replacement' files and this should allow the installer to work as normal.

First we will need to turn on file extensions for your system, this is basically just slightly changing the way you view files. To do this please use the following steps:
- Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer
- In the top menu of Window Explorer, click on Tools -> Folder options (Windows Vista users may have to press the Alt key to see the tools option at the top of the window)
- Click on the View Tab In the list, look for the "Hide extensions for known file types" option, and make sure that it is unchecked.
- Click OK to save the changes. (Don't close the Windows explorer)

Now we can create the needed files. The contents of the files is not important as such, just so long as they exist, the installer should work.

In the Windows explorer window, look for an item labeled either My Computer, or Local Disk (C, if you have the My computer icon, double click on this and it should also show a list of items including the same Local Disk (C

Double Click on the Local Disk (C item to open it.
In this location, scroll through the list and look for a Windows folder, double click to open this folder.
You should now be in the C:Windows folder.

In the top menu of Windows explorer, click File, then New, then click on Text Document.
A new file should be created in the folder, named New Text Document.txt
Press the delete or backspace key to delete this name, and enter:
war3unin.exe
And press enter. Click yes to the warning about changing the file name extension.

Now we also need a second file, use the same steps:

In the top menu of Windows explorer, click File, then New, then click on Text Document.
A new file should be created in the folder, named New Text Document.txt
Press the delete or backspace key to delete this name, and enter:
war3unin.dat

I did create these two files into Wine windows folder and TheFrozenThrone.iso allows me to install expansion on Reign of Chaos installer tome from Blizzard on-line store. I ask moderators to sticky this thread.
