is a good idea to allow more than 1 orb/buff placer per unit?

I discover a way to make a bug-free multi-orb and buff-placer system that allows my heroes to have as much orb effects and buff placers they want to.

but I ask myself if it is a good idea to allow such a thing in an AOS map.

let's start discussion.

do you think it`s a good idea to make something like this:

the item above is just an example, I`m not having this item in my AOS:

mask of death
+ 10% life steal (-1% for each other orb effect on inventory)

frost blade
+ slows enemies movement speed by 20% on attack (-2% for each other orb effect on inventory)

what shouldnt be okay about it? an orb effect isnt some special megic device which makes you win the game at once.
its your task to balance your game and if you have more then 1 orb effect per hero its your task to balance that as well, if you think its imbalanced to have more or unfair for certain players its the fault of your bad balancing.

It all depends on whether your heroes are balanced. Orb effects do not stack by default because thats the way Blizzard made the game, not because there is some law out there that says if heroes have more than 1, then the game will be imbalanced.

It just depends on what your orb effects are, exactly.

ok, but imagine if a player have, for example:

15% life steal.
20 feedback.
20% slow on attack.
10% chance to frost nova the target.
20% chance to cast chain lightning on attack.
-6 armor on attack.

I think that If a hero have all these orb it sounds to opressive.
but If I reduce the power of all orb effects, then they become to weak and players will have to get a lot of orbs.

any solution to this problem?

make players get a lot of orbs...
its up to you how you want your map to be balanced.

if you only got few but very powerful orbs let every player have only one of them the one way or the other.
if you have lots of orb effects with only little effect, well its kinda self-explanatory...

its a good idea but whether its a really good idea or just annoying and disencouraging the players to use orb effects i cannot say until i played your game.

As a general rule in my experience, it is rarely a good idea to balance a game by punishing players.

Occasionally, that type of balancing is necessary and may work, such as Luna in DotA, who cannot use certain items because of her moonglaive skill.

If the players in your map have the option of getting all orb effects, and they all stack with each other, say for example:

Life leech
Mana drain
Stun
Slow
Chance to frost nova
etc.
etc.

Then you have to balance your game in other ways.

League of Legends is a good example of this. LoL is an AoS game. The heroes can get all of the above orb effects, and they all stack. Does that mean it is imbalanced? Not necessarily. Firstly, their inventory is limited to 6 slots. Secondly, the heroes are balanced in such a way that even with all the orb effects, they can still be countered.

So my point is basically to repeat what Accname has said. The balance of your map is up to you. Just remember, variation is a good thing. Don't go all in or all out for something. Try a little of this, or a little of that, and play around with different options.

i'll have to go with no.

If one orb gets nerfed when you get another one that makes the player lose gold, why? cuz he bought a item that used to do something, and now its worst, noone would do this

Sure, you could stack lifesteal and slow and what not, but your HP mana, armor etc will suck, only idiots would go about doing that especially since lifesteal wont heal so much unless you have damage.

Make it so when you have more than 1 orbs the power of the second reduced by 2 the third by 3 and so on....
or something like that

players are not loosing gold because an orb became a little worst, for example.

10% -1% per orb.
if the player have 6 orbs he`ll end up with 5%, which is half of the power.
and if he sells one orb he can recover that percentage lost.
in other words, why would a player have 6 orbs?
it's like that guy said: you'r MP, HP, DAMAGE, will suck!
maybe I'll just create different game modes, like:

-1o = only the orb effects in slots 1 works.
-2o = only the orb effects in slots 1, 2 works.
-3o = only the orb effects in slots 1, 2, 3 works.
-4o = only the orb effects in slots 1, 2, 3, 4 works.
-5o = only the orb effects in slots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 works.
-6o = only the orb effects in slots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 works.

If the guys above thinks that orb effect stacking is not balanced, we could always set the price of the item on higher value.

this a blizzard thing, orb effects are by nature unable to stack.
my map is 100% trigger, so my orbs a triggered too, which means I decide if I wan't or not my heroes to have more than 1.

I think its a good idea as long a you can balance

I balance the game using the best balance system.

I play my game online lots and lots of times.

And I'll also create the game mode:
-gh = god host.
this mode allows player 1 (red) to give gold for other players if he thinks that the hero that player is using is too weak.

That's exactly what I said. Luna cannot use certain items because of her skill.

Anyway, players WILL lose money because of the diminishing return of buying more than one orb effect. If I bought 2 orb effects, the worth of those two items will drop, and therefore the actual worth of the gold I spent will decrease, but I will still be paying the same price. Simple economics.

OT: Icefrog is too lazy to edit -.- he don't know what do..

A friend (which use playdota alot) just tell me something like... icefrog wait people which create heroes ideas to give him spellsbooks with those suggestion -_-'

i just... lose any respect what i got... (not too much, like 10%) now... -1% :) but w/e

I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work

Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
