My computer is getting slow like a turtle.:(

I had a long time haven't use it, like an year and an half.

My brother said that it is that slow because of dust which is not cleaned during the time, I don't actually believe that.:confused:

But is that true?

Is there any solution, or shall I change the hardware?
Like 3D graphic card or the mother broad?

Can I clean the inside of a computer, I am not that careful:eek:, and so I don't want to.

Thanks

Try deep cleaning your computer.

Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Disk Defragmenter

Control Panel > Perofrmance and Maintenance > Free up space on your hard disk

Might try an antivirus/anti adware like Ad Aware or Ad Aware or the Microsoft Antivirus program to clean up an little buggers causing additional slowness.

as far as dust goes, it is a good idea to clean your computer every once in a while, because it slows down so it does not overheat, which happens faster when there is dust, just open it up and vacuum it, use a brush or compressed air to get the harder-to-reach places, and then close it back up

Is it possible that I don't need to open the computer and get the faster computer. Like the first guy said. (I'm think that this way should be better)

I don't want to use a brush and brush the inside of the computer because I don't want to damage my computer.

Try downloading Spyware Doctor. It is from Microsoft, and I am on Windows XP also. It blocked the viruses from my computer, including 4 spyware threats.

Here is the link to it: http://spywaredoctor.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click download, then save it in My Documents. The execute it, then make sure all of any Adware/Spyware/Parasites/Viruses/Worms, or anything that is on your computer, is cleaned off of your computer quickly.

I have that programme, but that doctor just made my computer even slower when that thing is scanning the computer.

I am sure the problem won't be some virus because I have just re-set the computer totally.

There is nothing but My Computer, IE and other folder which are necessary.

the point of the as scanner is to scan your computer, then finish, and after it finishes then your computer may be faster..

and manually deleting files really isnt the answer to viruses/ads, viruses like to hide amongst the system files, and spyware likes to hide within your cookies, which would not have been deleted..

just have someone else clean the insides for you. Some computer shops offer this type of service.

The minimum space you'll need so that your computer does not slow down considerably is 250mb (i think) But i like to keep it at 1.2 GB for optimum preformance

Sorry, I forgot to mention something, that program has stolen a lot of space in my computer, and That's what I am mean when I say "it made my computer slower"

I recommend the following...

Click start >> control panel >> then add/remove programs then Remove/uninstall any of those listed make sure you double check the microsoft and windows programs they maybe important
Click start >> all programs >> Accessories >> system tools
Use Disk defragmentation, disk clean up and should could try system restore, knowing that u havent used your computer in a while

Okay, here's the good news

The good news is that I tried to clean my disk, and then my computer works faster, but not faster than new computers......
Still, thanks.

Run this program CCleaner it removes unwanted space on your computer and fixes lots of registry errors which can cause your computer to slow down. The first time I sued this I had 2,200mb of useless temp files and around 130 registry errors.

Another question for sure.

My computer is very slow, if I replace a new 3D graphic card, will it be faster???

Or it will work if I replace a new motherbroad?
For my experience before, I always have a thought that new motherbroad and 3D graphic card will make the computer faster. Is that true?

motherboard - no, this really is more for connectivity
graphics card - for games and not much else (aero effects, etc.)

cpu/memory/hard drive will probably be what you want, post what you have so we have an idea though, since in order to change the cpu/memory you may need a new motherboard

Well, 3D graphics card, will help anything visual load faster, especially if it has a ram cache to levitate graphics memory. If you buy a new Mother Board, it has to be the same brand as your processor, otherwise it will not be compatible. If you want a bit more speed, ram will always make a difference. But having a good Graphics card helps a lot, if you watch videos, and play a lot of games.

What?

That is strange, because I downloaded some version and it did not make my computer slower. Lol, :(.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out

    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
