...Im going to be doing these at random times. with polls everyone can participate in.

...Have fun?

Uh, a bit of combinations plus more. I don't really study... I don't listen in class either... I just read my notes at lunch 5 minutes before the test. It kinda explains my bad spanish tests but I'm lazy. Like you'll see some people in my school studying a WEEK before the test, and I know I should, but I can't commit. So if it's like important like midterms and finals, I'll look over my notes quickly (just reading them, then I rely on my photographic memory) for 30 minutes the night before the test, then in the morning and lunch for about 5 minutes. I don't use notecards, text books, or anything. I just look at the few notes I write. I'm more of a thinker person, so if I get the basic idea, I can expand on it myself during the test. But my educational memory is short-term and fast, so the 5 minutes before the test help me a lot, but right after, I'll forget it all.

Are you actually trying to get something out of these random polls (unlikely), or are you just posting threads for the sake of posting threads.

If this gonna become a regular thing, it wont.

Now to answer your question, I typically don't study and I get most things however for math I really should be studying because I'm failing and for art history I have to study because I have to remember things like art works, their artists, the year they were created, where they where made, the medium used and the name of the art period. Not easy.

for the sake. of seeing what other people do.

For example. Something like this. Could give me more ideas to study, and its not something stupid. so its not spam either :p

Besides. my last random poll was a few months ago :/

For the most part, I get things in class, when it comes to C++/logic design/math. However, for my History Class and for math tests, I do do a bit of studying, but for the most part it is simply looking through my notes (or my teacher's notes, if they've posted them).

The best thing you'll ever learn how to do for school is learn how to take good notes, and how to manage your time.

For classes like History, where you actually have to read outside of class and remember facts, I simply do terrible on tests, and don't read the books. I find I never actually get anything out of the books.

If there's any other resource, such as a study guide, or if I can look up the material on an online website, that will be my first choice.

I leave it till the last minute.

Then pull and all nighter and hope for the best. Works so far.

That's almost what I do. Take good notes and pay attention during class. Then whiz through your notes at lunchbreak.

Another method is what I call pulling a "Shang" (named after a friend in my school). Don't study, take the test, get pissed off when your teacher gives you back a 98%.

Does he happen to be Asian?

I don't study :p

But, when it comes to big exams or even long exams, I do study 30 minutes before I sleep.

I'm more of an essay person. I hate identification and enumeration type of tests. It kills alot of my precious neurons faster than it should be:thup: :).

.. i really hate chemistry. i mean. i hate it. theres no way to study chemistry. ITS A PAIN. I dont want to learn the periodic table. i dont feel like memorizing the common ions. I dont feel like memorizing the freakin prefixes (theres like 3 different prefixes) i dont want to learn how to balance an equation, i dont want to memorize the pH scale. Its BULL

btw.

History is so easy to learn. Its just pure memorizing, i mean its not even a trick question. theres one answer for history.

I voted the sponge one, because I learn most of the stuff at class. But I study at home sometimes.

I write loads of notes in class and take it in then, but when it comes to revising it I cannot concentrate at all. It's a pain, because it's only on tests when I tend to do badly.
For example, most of my history essays last year were getting reasonable grades, but when it came to the exam, I failed completely. The thing is, I do not see how an exam in such a subject really helps show your ability, because when you put that subject into use in the real world you'll have access to lots of books and more time to put together whatever it is you happen to be doing.

Chemistry is easy; at least, the things you've emphasised are. I just learnt that stuff easily enough in class, you get used to using it when you put it into practice a lot, paticularly balancing equations. And the pH scale is really easy, it shouldn't take two minutes to understand or memorise it.
The harder stuff though... yeah, that's where I fell down.

How to study:

1. According to Chinese official rules, those who are at age of consent must read up to 10 pages per day on each book. Each book weighs a ton.

2. After studying 10 pages per book, review them by taking Cornell notes. Must be a total of ten pages.

3. After that it's done, according to the Chinese Constitution of Republic, take a 3 hour break playing your favorite Street Fighter or CS game with billions of other players. The former and latter are games I don't play well on, and don't take them seriously.

4. Repeat Steps 1 through 4.

5. Rinse and repeat.

Im a lazy fudger.
Though even I study, amazingly!
Studying the night before a test allows your brain to "ingest" the information whilst you sleep.
Or that just works for me, y'know.

I realize it's a common thing to study just before the test...I hope I get good grades during this week's midterm exams.

i tend to listen to music while i study.

My parents doesnt like it... but it makes me feel relaxed.

;)

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done
    +1
  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
