World Residents flee in panic as Indonesia’s Semeru volcano erupts

The Semeru volcano on the Indonesian island of Java has erupted, killing one person, injuring at least 35 and trapping some people in buildings as it spewed out huge clouds of smoke and ash, officials have said.

Videos shared on Saturday by the country’s disaster mitigation agency (BNPB) showed residents running as towering smoke and ash blanketed some nearby villages in Lumajang district in East Java province.
