Routers: Question

Admittedly I know beans about different routers & my needs. I assume I don't need a $100+ router, so here goes the explanation:

I got a 50ft ethernet cable running up to my room which plugs into my desktop atm. I'd like to plug it into a router, which would give my room wifi access (the downstairs router does not get wifi to my room, hence the ethernet cable). The wifi would be used for my tablet and phone, so the most extreme bandwidth usage would come from streaming stuff on my tablet.

Any (cheap) suggestions as to what I should get?

EDIT: Does it matter what router we have currently set up downstairs? Is there a speed compatibility issue I need to worry about? I don't want to lose internet speed to my desktop.

What sort of wifi do your phone/tablet have? (N, 5ghz N, AC?) - it doesn't really matter which router you have downstairs, however if you want the devices to transfer automatically from one to the other, it is best to give them the same wifi name/password/security, but have them on a completely different channel.

It shouldn't matter much what router you have downstairs, however only 1 of the routers should be the gateway/DHCP server - the other should be configured for "access point" mode or similar - if you don't want to touch the existing one, configure your new one as such before connecting it to your network.
