well i decided to buy new parts just for sc2, (im using a crap dell dimension 3000, just barely able to play wc3 on medium res)

and well, i just wanted opinions if you think this system could play SC2

(just a note, i bought these cuz they seemed good, plus i checked to see if everything fit together but i do not know SC2 standards.)

Motherboard

Graphic Card

Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037

Ram (bought 2 for a total of 4 gig memory, my friend says windows XP only supports 3 gigs of ram?, please confirm)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227230

this ram is pretty expensive... there was very few choices since the motherboard only supported DDR2 1200 ( i think)

Hard drive
i dont think this matters, it was a 250 gb drive

Power Supply
550w

and this deal costed about 860 dollars =/ pretty expensive. (including tax and shipping)

btw maybe wrong forum but its related to sc2 so...

I think that will kill SC2. :p

My system will probably run it ok, and it's much worse than that....

However, I think I would recommend stepping up on the motherboard and possibly video card. (If you have the cash.)

This motherboard would probably be much better than that one:

Here are three video cards that I think would give you more mileage. They get more expensive as you go:

This one is really expensive:

>I think that will kill SC2.

hurray!

yea that was pretty much my max spend, if i use 100 dollars more, im gonna be totally broke.

what about my ram question :D

can Windows XP support 4 x 1 gb ram? (my friend says max is 3 so i dont know)

also, about that motherboard you posted, would that mean i have to change my ram too? cuz the memory is DDR 800 (newegg fails to post all the specs (like PCI slots) lol)

That is verry good, but i recomend that you put another 512 for your second slot.As far as i know starcraft II is gonna be like starcraft 1, meaning a lot of units.
When the game comes out use this to see how good it will run.One moore thing- this page is verry intense and heavy for ther computer so i recommend that you turn off evrythingif you are gonna use it.Btw the SCII needs 512 mb ram to play

Hi, I reccomend you purchase your graphics card from PNY. They sell PNY cards at Newegg for 119.99 for the same card. 8800GT 512mb plus, included is the game front lines fuels of war.

well a bit late though, but its ok, so the parts arrived and me and my bro spent like 5 hours building it, (problem with heatsink too big -.- but we finally got it) then a problem with the CD drive which is still unsolved

if you click on my motherboard link i posted earlier, you can see the IDE port is in a really bad position, not only is it in a bad position, it doesn't work with my IDE Dvd drive. i used the black cable labeled "CD ROM" and connected the drive to the motherboard. Now heres where the issue starts, the motherboard rejects the cd drive? and the drive does not power up (open or close tray). At first we thought there was something wrong with the power. But we unplugged the IDE cable and the power works fine. as soon as you plug it back, theres no power. anyone know whats going on?

(we ordered a SATA DVD drive for 20 bucks after failure in installing the IDE drive, but i still want to know why this is happening)
