Here is the FAQ that I did for the game

http://www.thehelper.net/threads/myminicity-mmc-faq-and-mmc-tutorials-mmc-tips-and-tricks.78924/

I got into this big time for a while. Alot of the site at the time did too.

Ace even jumped in full force finding out some hack nobody knew about and was able to accurately predict what a city would look like based on its population. He hacked it all up

http://www.thehelper.net/threads/th...net-myminicity-city.77343/page-14#post-682716

People from the MyMiniCity forums were begging Ace for info on how to do that. He said the only way he would tell them would be for them to use there Proxy tool to make us #1. They didn't, we never gave it to them. It was awesome.

More to come on this section.....

The First MVPs

One of the requirements of MVP used to be answering every question in the forum by breaking the Blizzard forum posting rules limits. To see every question on the whole page with your answer below it and no replies means success for then. I wish I could have taken screen shots of the amount of times I answered every question on the tech support forum and my red MVP lighted up the whole screen :) Then I saw t'kron do it. Then I saw Dinobot (Negafox) do it. Answered every question. Replaced the Blizzard Tech Support Person, basically we just cloned ourselves after Pat N and others. It was awesome days.

SFilip

SFilip was one of our best World Editor Forum Helpers. He answered beautifully. He was around for a long time. He was there through much of the History of this site as written. I actually saw SFilip lurking a couple of days ago in the log so if you read this buddy post up on this thread. Let us know when you came to the site, how long you were here and what did while you were here. If you have any stories about Ace, Ryoko, Darg or other people from the past that would be excellent.

The Hive

The Hive is all the sections of the Helper.net without the General Discussion stuff multiplied by 1000. They have (had) tons more users than us. The Hive, if I remember right, inherited all the content of w3srch or whatever that was. We also share two of there Administrators - Ghan being our main admin. We used to compete with them back in the Days of World Editor Greatness but they did much better on the hosted maps and project forums than we did. We had the World Editor Maps section on World Editor Help but that was never really integrated into the forum as it was a SDRyoko hack so we just never could get there. The two sites are affiliated and I used to have a Moderators login there thanks to Ghan. I haven't checked if that works in years and really have not thought the Hive in a while. Anybody have an update on these guys?

I remember back in the old days the Hive was being hosted on the owners own Cable connection - he had a fast one. He was in jeopardy of losing the connection so we were trying to see if we could them on our dedicated server at the time. We figured we could barely do it. We would have hosted them too if they went down. The site is/was a great resource. The scale of it though. It had so many users.....

Hive is still doing really well. They consistently have at least 1000 people online at a time and still get tons of traffic. I keep an eye on what's going on over there from time to time. :)

Haha I almost forgot about the mini city. I still can't believe how big it became (and only 1% unemployment/crime rate!) Didn't know that little tidbit towards the end either, pretty funny to read. :)

Ghan

I first noticed Ghan when he had thousands of posts and huge reputation. He was totally under my radar. It got to the point though I noticed him and he was heavy into helping on the site and heavy into wanting to know servers. Ace was our server admin at the time. A job he initially did not want but was ultimately the only for the job. We were really busy back then during the World Editor days. After the Great Crash Ace stepped up.

I am not one for having all my eggs in one basket so I backed Ghan and give him access to the site along with Ace. Ghan was already a forum Administrator at the time so the only way up was site Admin. Then Ace left. Ghan jumped in and took over. It was not easy as Ace had the place tightened up to his advanced knowledge and Ghan's learning intensified.

Ghan was already an Administrator at the Hive and they ran the same forum software that we did. I think that he did not have the kind of actual server access he wanted as the site was hosted at its owners house on some super awesome cable connection.

When Ace left Ghan had full control of all things server

To be continued....

What is Ghan doing now all these years later?

I make a living managing servers now, partly thanks to experience I got here starting some years ago. My official title is "Infrastructure Server Engineer"

Updated with some more screenshots of site in the past and also added some more potential sections, RPG Stars, Nuon-Dome, phyrex1an, The Helper Chat. Moved some stuff around to better match the timeline of events.

Add Chiles Nuon-Dome forum integration, Linked up Chiles name to his section a couple of areas.

All changes were done to the main Index page.

Or even third party. Like if you don't have an original one in a functional condition, you cannot play this game properly. Like yeah the keyboard mods exist, but I think those are BARELY functional
  • Varine Varine:
And since almost all of my programming experience is with defunct shit now, I figure my best place is helping preserve legacy stuff. Which I don't know how to do necessarily, but I need some kind of a hobby and figuring out how older things worked is the only shit that really interests me. Well soldering and restoration is fun too, but no one is bringing me new stuff to fix and restore, so it's mostly old shit, and I LOVE OG Xbox so much. I want to make sure it can function as long as possible, until someone can effectively emulate it at least. I have like 15 I was going to fix over the winter and didn't get to.

  • Varine Varine:
I also have a couple OG gameboys, but idk if I can do that without like, manufacturing new parts that no one makes anymore and I can't do that right now
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Currently in the middle of getting the probate process going. We're doing the informal probate process.

  • Varine Varine:
A probate is usually done with a will, yes? If so I am sorry for your loss

Yeah Tom, me too sorry for your loss buddy my mom told me she finds out her olds friend died from Google searching them. She had not talked to one of her old friends in a year and found out she died from Google. Also another one in the same session. RIP all of them my sincere condolences Tom

We have some elderly guests that regularly come hang out at the bar at the end of the night, and every once in a while we don't see someone for a few weeks and then someone shows up with their obituary.
  • Varine Varine:
We usually let them do their memorials there in the morning if they want to and I'll make them some snacks and drinks. There was one guy named Tom that came in like every night and would sit by himself and get a bunch of soup and a glass of wine. idk why but he LOVED our fucking soup, like he would order a fucking quart of it at a time and would always get so sad when we stop doing it for the summer.

  • Varine Varine:
But he also loved our calamari, which is another thing I hate but it sells super well so I can't change it. There was one day he came in and was asking me how to make it, because he tried to at home once in the off season when we stop running it and he really wanted it lol
  • Varine Varine:
I think he's one of the only people I've made recipes for for free because he really wanted a broccoli cheddar, and it was like dude I don't have a recipe, it's just whatever I have, but here, this is how you do it
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think he ever figured out how to do the calamari in a pan though, like idk how to do that either. He was afraid of the at home deep fryers though and it's like yeah, that's fair, I am too
  • Varine Varine:
He was just such a sweet old man, we had two servers pregnant and they held a baby shower together, he was soooooo fucking excited to get to see a baby. Unfortunately he died a month or so before they were born
  • The Helper The Helper:
So I decided to Google some people that I had not seen or heard from in a while and sure enough one of my old best friends, we had a falling out years ago but whatever, find out he died of Pancreatic Cancer in January. I have also lost a few of my closer acquaintances from growing up the last year. Getting old - people die - I kinda thought it was going to be this way a few years ago....

  • The Helper The Helper:
    Forum running super slow again
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not really clear from the stats as to what is causing the slowness.
  • Ghan Ghan:
We get a lot of guest traffic so it may just be the load is getting too high and not from any particular source.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Looks like the server is maxed out on CPU.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Oh it looks like a lot of the traffic is Silkroad Forums. That domain isn't protected by Cloudflare.
  • Ghan Ghan:
But the old Silkroad site is still on its own server. I just had a test site set up on this server for it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I just disabled that test site. Let's see if that helps the load.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Looks much better already.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I had actually forgot about the Silkroad site. I had asked
  • The Helper The Helper:
SD Ryoko about it and he said the couple of people left on there really like it, that was a few years ago, maybe I should check back
  • jonas jonas:
I guess when you're getting old, and the last day of soup season draws near, you start wondering
  • jonas jonas:
will I make it to the start of the next season? or was this the last time I'll ever have my favorite dish?
