direct draw problem with d2

when i open to play diablo 2 it say's error32:does not initialize direct draw.
some one tell me wtf is going on before i slam my computer with a hammer.....plz =\

Make sure you have the latest version of Direct X and the latest version of your video card drivers. Do you already have those latest versions? What kind of computer - a Compaq? What kind of Video Card?

yes i do. it's kinda screwed up though. it might be the cd.

Have you tried looking up on Google the exact error message you are getting? Alot of times that will help find you an answer.

Can you provide additional information about your hardware? Try the following steps:

-Click on the Start button on the taskbar.
-Click on Run....
-Type dxdiag and press the Enter key.
-Post information into this thread from DirectX Version towards the bottom of the window.
-Click on the Display tab.

Post the following information under the Device groupbox:

-Name:
-Manufacturer:
-Chip Type:

Post the following information under the Drivers groupbox:

-Main Driver:
-Version:
-Date:

You may want to sure all the DirectX Features options are enabled.

i had (still have) the same problem
on my own pc the game wont start with 3d acceleration...it simply crashes
here, on my brother's pc i received an error when i tried to play WITHOUT 3d acceleration.
the main diffrence between our computers is that i use ATI and he use nVidia. neither one has original drivers because of the windows xp sp2 that buggs up everything if i try to install them.

so drivers could be your problem

SP2 IS EVIL. That horrible shit update forced me to reformat once. I say, avoid that shit. Stick with SP1.
