Looking into getting an external hard drive/headphones

Hello members of TH!

I'm going to be entering college next year, and I'd like to get an external hard drive and a nice pair of headphones. Ideally, the hard drive would hold 1 tb of space, have a decent backup speed, and be compatible with both PCs and Macs. As far as price range goes, I'm willing to spend around $120. What do you recommend? Are there products that I should stay away from? What does one look for when deciding?

For the headphones, I really would like a pair of over the ear styled ones that are of a good quality. I'd be willing to spend about $150 on this purchase, provided I know what I am getting into. That being said, I really do not know what makes a good pair of headphones, any tips? Recommendations?

It's USB 3.0, which is really fast provided that you have a computer with USB 3 ports. If not, it's backward compatible with the older USB 2 as well.

As for headphones, are you looking for one with a mic as well, or is it just headphones for listening?
