merging partitions

hey guys, im having a little trouble merging two partitions. i just reformatted my computer a couple days ago and my harddrive is split into two 44.5GB partitions. what im trying to do is combine them into one 100GB drive. however, i havent been able to do that lol. i downloaded the demo version of paragon parition manager, but it wont let me merge them together. i have also tried partition logic and it doesnt detect and harddrive when i boot into it.
