Using different tiles.
By Insane!
Ok we all know that we can use different tiles for our maps, but what about the tiles that we often ignore? Well I’m going to show you that using those tiles can improve your map!
Ok compare these two tile sets
Lorderon summer
And Black Citadel
“Wow”, now that’s different. Who would think of actually combining these tile sets? Me, the guy who wrote this tutorial! Hopefully this tutorial will show you to not be afraid to combine way different tile sets.
Now lets make a forest, Well how about Ashenvale? Nah for the purpose of this tutorial, lets pick something a little less suitable. Now with my option, “Lorderon summer” at hand, we shall look at all the tiles that I choose
From these two tile sets.
Now these tiles don’t look right together, So Far.
Ok on the top left tile, we know that it will not match with the grass (or the other tiles) so we set it at a lower level, and surround it by grass.
now that’s a whole lot better! To me that looks like mud, or rich soil.
which adds some realism to your map .
so now lets look at my example of using all of these tiles together.
yeah ok the animals wouldn’t be near that path (I probably should have made it look more abandoned) but do you see, that those tiles don’t look as out of place as they did before. Now do they? (Ok the path tile does, but for this tutorial, I needed to use the tiles I chose before.)
happy terrianing
Edit:
ok this may not be called a "tutorial", but maybe it is.
EDIT2:
Bent the rules to get a better grassy dirt
and to include all the grass tiles in the pics
