Wc3Campaigns had IRC channel way before AFAIK . I don't think someone can say that the idea belongs to him... A lot of other websites have channel as well.

Actually, I had no idea The Hive had implemented a Chat. The reason why we are considering a chat is because we finally have a server powerful enough to host it. We have talked about a chat behind closed doors for years now.

Cool, a TH chat would probably be filled with spam and gabbing, but it may come to some help to exploring newbies (slightly annoying). I'm not sure what this will do to the forums, though.

Many forums have chats...
If someone wants a quick responses, you could give them a tutorial etc. in the chat
but really the forum will always be the top way to get help...
