Hello!

I haven't posted here in awhile!

Anyway, I'm currently conducting a survey about Starcraft 2. In detail, I'm searching for things that influence one's 1vs1 skill level. So if you have around 5 minutes of free time, please take the survey!

Current 1vs1 league
I do not play ladder currently. But telling from the opponents i regularily beat i would say i am in lower diamond league.
Current ladder 1vs1 position
I entered 0, see the reason above.

What Starcraft 2 in-game texture settings do you use?
What Starcraft 2 in-game graphics settings do you use?
I dont know if this is really related to skill or rather to how good of a computer you can afford.
However, although i could potentially play on high settings i choose to play on low settings because of 3 reasons:
1: Much shorter loading times.
2: If suddenly 300 zerglings pop (and yes! this is possible!) it might start to lag even on my pc.
3: less distraction from simple eye candy.

Approximately how many days a week do you play Starcraft 2?
When i first got the game i was playing it about 4 days a week or so.
Now? I am playing it less then once a week.

Approximately how many hours a day do you play Starcraft 2?
I think if i would play the same game, no matter which one, more then 2 hours in a row nowadays, i would get crazy!

Do you watch any Starcraft 2 related streams?
I can highly recommend to anybody, who wants to improve his starcraft skills, to watch sc2 commentaries. I watch them on a daily basis and i can truly say my skills have, since when i started, improved greatly.
You will learn all the pro-tactics and all the little things which can make a difference.

Do you actively partake in Starcraft 2 related websites?
Isnt TheHelper.net a starcraft 2 related website itself?

I dont quite know why you want to take these information, but i wish you the best luck for your results.

Hey Andrew, long time no see, nice to hear from you again.

I took my time before I write a post on this topic, I did research, talked to some GM and top 8 M (actually top 1 but w/e) players about what exactly gives you skill in SCII, I also talked to EG's HuK about improving your SCII skills, so I will write it as a wall of text, which by all means feel free to use it for whatever you need too.

I will divide it into 2 parts: In game things and out-of game things.

So, the out of game things, aka mouse, keyboard, headphones, grafical settings and the likes.

You don't need an expensive "pro" gamer mouse, like razer for example. What you need is a mouse which doesn't tire your arm(since you will be playing a lot of hours)

The keyboard doesn't matter at all, neither does the headset as long as it is comfortable.

The grafical settings are unimportant. In fact most pro players play the game on lowest or medium. What is important here is that you must have zero lag. The early game is decided in 2-3 seconds if you meet, the lategame in 10-15 seconds. You CAN'T have any lag during that time, SCII has a lot of micro into it, despite it being a macro orientated RTS.

The way to improve: "You must play a lot" said EGHuK. As simple as that. As much as you can, for as long as you can. You must analyse your replays (article by me: here)

I have talked to other GM and pro or semi-pro players about it, they all said the same thing: you must play, as much as you can, as long as you can in order to progress.

2 hours 2-3 days a week is nothing. 2 hours a day is nothing. I played for ~4 hours 7 days a week in order to make it into the top 2% in the world. Notice that there are people who play 6+ hours a day and are not in top 200 on their server.

Watching casters can get you somewhere in platinum, which is... well the best way to improve is to download top replays and analyse them, then copy what the pro's do. Can you get high level without it ? Sure, I use only my builds and when I am in good shape I beat GM/top 8 M players as well. (Then again I haven't really been in decent, let alone good shape since September when school started so...)

The last thing I am going to address is the breaks, get them when you need them, but something like 1-2 minutes after every game, just to take control of your emotions (since let's face it, 1v1 player vs player games get really personal and people get quite emotional in them)

If you have any more questions fire away :p
