While many students try to go to the beach during their summer vacation, others are going green.
Forty-eight students throughout the Southern Tier were selected for the two-week science workshop called the Go Institute.
Projects will focus on creating a sustainable environment.
Students will get the chance to complete a series of lab experiments.
They will also visit the Broome County landfill to learn about recycling.
"That part of it really excites me that we're getting kids that are this age, that are really thinking about these things," said Union-Endicott high school teacher Doug Hubert. "Changes that they can make in their everyday lifestyle.'
There's also a workshop planned for the area teachers in the fall.
They'll learn how to bring the Go Institute's information to their classrooms.
