I'm not really knowledgable about graphics cards. I recently got a new GeForce 4 Ti 4200 but I get really choppy framerate in games even with settings turned low. Here is my information:

CPU: AMD Athalon XP 2000+

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail)

Video:

Chip Type GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
DAC Type Integrated RAMDAC
Installed Drivers nv4_disp (6.14.10.5303 - nVIDIA Detonator 53.03)
Memory Size 128 MB

--------[ Motherboard ]-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Motherboard Properties:
Motherboard ID 62-1029-001131-00101111-040201-SiS735$K7S5AK7S5A Release 10/29/2002 S
Motherboard Name ECS K7S5A
Motherboard Chipset SiS735

Chipset Properties:
Motherboard Chipset SiS 735

Memory Slots:
DRAM Slot #1 512 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)

AGP Properties:
AGP Version 2.00
AGP Status Enabled
AGP Aperture Size 64 MB
Supported AGP Speeds 1x, 2x, 4x
Current AGP Speed 4x
Fast-Write Not Supported

Is there any other information I can give that would help? Is my motherboard not allowing me to use the graphic card to its full potential? What is slowing down my games? Why do I always get a choppy framerate, even though I exceed the optimal requirements on them?

Well, your card supports AGP 8X, but your motherboard only goes up to 4X according to what you posted. That would slow things down, but I doubt it would cause choppy framerates in games. You should still get decent performance out of your card. As Wargasm said, update your SiS chipset to the latest version if not done already. Everything else looks fine to me.

The only thing that comes to mind is memory usage. If you press CTRL+ALT+DEL and take a look at the numbers at the bottom, what is the number of processes, the CPU usage (wait a few secs to let it settle down) and the "commit charge"?

the difference between 8x and 4x is not that much ..
it's not u have a 50% speed increase ehehe
more like 2-3%

maybe pci-x gives a big boost in the future we see ;)
