Okey I was stumbeling around in Youtube for hacks for a flash game.

And I entered a link.

There was a 80 kb .exe file and I downloaded it. I opened it (pretty stupid of me) but nothing happened. But the file suddenly disappeared. Is this a virus/keylogger?

The link was pretty strange. It said that the file has been scanned and it's virus free etc etc, but I noticed some other links that were exactly the same, the only thing is that the domain was different and the files. But the page were the same.

Almost definately yes.

80Kb sounds about right for any harmful exe.

So yes, if you ran it then it has probably infected your system. It's common for these programs to delete themselves after they drop their payload. Unless the reason it disppeared is because your virus scanner deleted it.

But, It could get much worse than that I believe. Well, thats what you get for downloading a hack stuff. A nicely virus. That wasn't such a good idea, Isn't It? LOL

Yeah, it's probably a virus. Ill just run a quick check and post back.

I did this too (on Friday the 13th lol). I went through 4 hours of trying to get rid of the virus but in the end a system restore fixed the problem.

I have honestly never seen a virus that has deleted itself, and whatever browser your using, if it bypassed your browser and your AV system you should ask a professional if you have to. plus, you should wait a few days, if your AV doesnt find anything, play around your computer normally and see how it is affecting your computer

That is actually more commong than you think, the file he downloaded was probably just a "setup"-file of some sort.

Do you have any strange new processes running?
What AV do you have?
What OS are you using?
What was the name of the file? // Nevermind this one, stupid question

I am gooing to take a look at the file and see what I might find.

Edit: Hmm, a sneaky one, I guess I was right about the setup file, I found some info regarding a irc.aimwin trojan.

It might also the cassidy worm, if it is this one then you should not be in much trouble if you get it gone fast.
A sweep with malwarebytes antimalware should do the trick just fine.

1. Download and install.
2. Update it to the latest version.
3. Do a full scan(this might take about 30-60mins depending on how fast your comp is).
